Hi everyone!

I'm new on here and I have an issue that I hope wiser BTC users can help me with. I accidentally gave someone a sending address instead of a receiving address from my Bitcoin Qt client to send me a payment. The payment was sent and now it's somewhere in BTC limbo. The blockchain shows that funds are at this sending address with many confirmations. Is there anyway I can get this BTC back? Don't I own my sending addresses? If so, I should be able to get that BTC back somehow correct?

Thanks for your time,

Can your post your address and that address?
It might be a "change" address. Is your QT synced .

I'm not at home now so I don't have the addresses. Yes, it is fully synced all the time. What is a change address?

The tab furthest to the right called "Addresses" where it says "These are your Bitcoin addresses for sending payments" I am using the Qt client. Reading that link now... thanks.

Those are addresses where you have spent Bitcoins in the past, e.g. you've send Mr. XY 2 Bitcoins, then his address will be listed there.

Exactly.

This is an address of someone (or some business) that you've sent bitcoins to in the past.

Don't I own my sending addresses?

No.  The person (or business) that you sent bitcoins to at this address in the past owns the address.

Is there anyway I can get this BTC back?

If you contact the person (or business) that you sent the bitcoins to, they might be willing to send them back.  If you look in the transaction history in Bitcoin-Qt, you should see when you sent bitcoins there and how much you sent.  Perhaps that will help you remember where you sent them.

Oh no... there goes my coins. Sad I checked my transactions and I have no idea who owns that address. The info on that tab could be worded much better. It was my mistake though of course and I won't be doing that again for sure. Loosing money is a great teacher... lol. Thanks everyone.
