i thought maybe fun to make open wifi with captive portal and charge bitcoins.  this exist?  is legal?

Doesn't exists that I know of but should be legal since theres other ones that except payment with tokens your can buy from hotels ect..

would be neat. but what if you want to go on your lappy and it has no coins but. your a champ and you remembered your wallet.dat, which is all good and stuff. but how do you get your coins if your not connected to the internet.

The portal would allow to visit certain sites.  You could access MyBitcoin or Instawallet just to issue a quick payment.

What movement? bitfoilhat is suggesting a new idea. If you are talking about Fonera, it exists since ~2007. In Europe is fairly popular and here in Portugal I have free wi-fi almost everywhere because I bought a Fonera router  Smiley
