After going to the Bitcoin themed hackerspace meeting at Laboratory B and meeting up with great minds there; I have made a conscious decision. I do not want to sell my Bitcoins for any profit. Instead I would rather want to spend them in the Bitcoin community – purchase goods and services. Basically, use them the way they were intended.
I know a lot of speculators see dollar signs every time the Bitcoin hits an all time high at an exchange, but this isn’t about profit for me; this is about the bigger picture. Bitcoin has to have a self sustaining economy in order to for Bitcoin to flourish and gain mainstream adoptance. To me Bitcoin represents more than just getting money quick, or buying illicit goods. To me Bitcoin represents our freedom from financial institutions gambling our hard earned money while they stand to profit off of their obsolete institutions.
Imagine a day when you can pay your rent instantly to your landlord, rather than waiting for a check to deposit, and watching your bank account to ensure the mailman did his job to deliver your check. Imagine, being paid every day you work rather than waiting for a weekly paycheck. Imagine, no more banking fees, no account maintenance fees, etc.
Bitcoin has the power to bring us closer to an age where we no longer have to worry about carrying a real leather bound wallet, checkbooks, debitcards, creditcards, or anything but our cell phones, car keys and other personal effects.
