So ive come to notice that this forum has become completely littered with spam from signatue bounty hunters. When I joined in december I was told that this is the best source where to get info about crypto, but just to sift throught the crap here and actually find a thread that is engaging is near to impossible. If it keeps going on like this, this forum will become obsolete and it will be just a cash cow for bounty hunters coming from underdeveloped countries...

Are there going to be imposed any rules to stop this? Maybe a closed bounty thread for higher ranks only?

Id rather read some relevant info in here than try to make a buck from bounty honestly, and Im probably not the only one. The forum might lose true crypto enthusiasts this way...

Quite a few of us are working on improving the situation here. It's a bit of a slow process, and the merit system has made quite a difference. Stay with us as it will improve. Your quality posts will help us to regain the old Bitcoin Talk forum.

Here is how you can use the forum effectively even with the spam going on:

1) Use ignore option for users making spam posts or bumping old threads.

2) If you find an exceptional post, check the profile of the person. If he has made similar posts, you can bookmark such profiles. Such members are huge in numbers here and thus you will have enough to read for months. These members will keep adding more posts in future as well.

3) Finally, you can try sorting posts based on creation date and number of replies to filter threads.

I understand the merit system should be helpful. However as long as Jr. Members will be able to join signature campaigns, it wont help that much. Honestly I dont understand the ICO start ups either, the reach of Jr. Member signature cant have much of an impact.

It pretty much has become obsolete for any solid discussion and the situation will only continue to get worse the longer nothing is done about it. However, two sub boards were created to try have some sort of safeheaven from spam here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=250.0

Signatures do not show in there and posts are not counted towards activity so it is largely useless to signature spammers and farmers (well apart from getting merit I guess).

Are there going to be imposed any rules to stop this?

Punishments should be put on the bounty managers/campaigns that cause all the mess in the first place. If they are required to actually do their job and only pay for quality posts then the forum would be a much better place, but at the moment campaigns can get away with doing absolutely nothing about spam and until they are forced to run their campaigns nothing much will change.

The quality here has really degraded if we see as the whole. There are still very knowledgeable and experienced members here that make good posts but the problem is that it gets lost in all the crap posts that are being made for the various reasons. It is not just signature campaigns, some people are doing this to promote their scammy projects or to be able to send more messages. There is still no merit requirement for junior member rank and thus a new member tries to compete all posts in one go so as to become a jr member asap.

If an ICO wants to buy the signature spaces of members then it will be wiser for them if they choose the Senior Member+ accounts only and that too with some merit pre-requisite. Those who are accepting juniors and going to gather a lot of them surely but that will be a shitposter gang, whose main job will be to gangbang the mega-threads in the "Bitcoin Disucssion" and "Economics" sections. Grin

I myself no longer feel like posting in these sections - too much spam to handle and by the time I post something in such a thread there would be 4 new replies already lined up. Roll Eyes

While I can't help with the signature and spammy posts directly, I can suggest some things that will make your experience on bitcointalk a bit more positive.

Here is a topic on how to use the watchlist and notifications.

Here is a topic on how to start topic reading from where you left.

With these tools, you can eliminate a significant amount of noise to begin finding the valuable information you're looking for. Hope this helps!  Smiley
