Popping my cryptocurrency cherry

Hey all,

This is my first post here as I'm just starting getting into the crypto world so forgive me for any incorrect statements I make. I started looking into what I wanted to invest in mid-November and I've finally come up with my initial list. I wish I had gotten in before the big rises a few weeks ago but it's better late than never. Since I've never invested before I'm not fully sure how to go about it. I'm getting into altcoins as I'm not going to be throwing huge sums of money around just yet. Each month I plan to drop a couple hundred on new/existing currencies in to keep building my portfolio.

These are the currencies I plan on buying with the amounts in brackets.
    Verge     [$100]
    Digibyte  [$100]
    Waves    [$200]
    Tierion    [$100]
    Ripple     [$200]

Other currencies on my radar are :
    StealthCoin
    BitBay
    BitCore
    Blocknet
    Raiblocks

So my question is what's the best way to go about buying these, Bittrex, something else? Also will I need to have a separate wallet for each of these? Since these are long term I don't mind using a paper wallet. I really don't want to use a wallet on my PC as my PC is 9 years old and is rarely used. I have an iPhone (the X) that I don't mind using, or buying a a hardware wallet or even using a paper wallet. I don't plan on day trading as these are more-or-less long-term holds.

I have more questions but I'll wait for more responses as I'm sure some will be answered!

Any information on starting out would be greatly appreciated. I'm excited to jump in!

Some of the following exchanges are good for alts.

- Bittrex
- Poloniex
- Bitfinex
- Binance

Check them out and see which one suits you the best! As for wallets, you could keep it all in an exchange (risky according to most people) or just get a wallet for each of them. Good luck and welcome to the crypto world!

I'm not going to judge your altcoin choices, but hopefully you actually did your research with those, and not just jumped in because of the hype.

Best way to obtain them is to buy BTC, then send them over to bittrex[1] or binance[2], then trade it there. Wallets? It depends. Try out Exodus wallet[3]; if exodus doesn't support some of those coins, then I'm afraid you have to download separate wallets for those coins.

I definitely did my own research on them, I don't want to risk a lot of money hence why I'm sticking with the cheaper alts. Thank you for the exchange listings. Seems like bittrex is holding off on new users so binance it is!

I think my biggest hurdle right now is what wallet to use. It doesn't seem like iOS has many wallets to use that support these alts. If using a paper wallet can you store multiple alts in 1 wallet? or would each alt need it's own wallet? It seems like the downside with a paper wallet is that it's tough to get the coins OUT of it and back into an exchange. Can anyone share the experiences with using a paper wallet?

I suggest that you only use a paper wallet when you're planning on just simply holding and not touching your coins for years.

I think the only decent multi-coin wallet that iOS has is Jaxx[1]. It doesn't support much coins though. Grab your PC and download Exodus[2] instead. iOS just really doesn't have much wallets right now.

Blocknet is interesting because its goal is to connect the nodes from various blockchains to exchange data and value. The cryptocurrency market has been waiting for a system like this, that can interlink coins and networks blockchains. Since Blocknet aims to be this connection, it’s been referred to as the Blockchain internet...definately an investment worth considering.

I have no idea why you focusing on so many at once.
My advice is to you focus on bitcoin, understand it well, try it, use it, then think if anything else any other crypto add value to technology or are just worse copy.

Hey, I don't want to put you off your purchases, but I would highly recommend doing some more reading, also look into hardware wallets if you have an old PC and are concerned about security, Trezor and Ledger are very user friendly.
