Hey Bitcoin Forum,

I'm supporting my partner's attempt at rowing the Pacific solo, from California to Hawaii as part of the Great Pacific Race. She's currently raising funds - I'm planning on contributing using BTC that I purchased a while back, but she still needs to raise quite a bit on top of that.

I'm thinking that this might be a good PR opportunity both for Elsa and for Bitcoin - a high-value sporting and charity event funded with Bitcoin will be interesting from several angles. The race will be in the media on both sides of the Atlantic, and there's a lot of branding space available on the boat.

I'd appreciate the community's views on this - does it sound like an interesting idea, what considerations do I need to take in to account regarding community confidence in funding the row, and what sort of organisations and people would be the best to approach first? I've sent a few initial emails to payment processors, as a lot of the kit will have to be purchased from suppliers who don't yet accept Bitcoin. Where next?

Elsa's site is www.elsahammond.com.

Thanks all, really keen to hear your views.
Steve

As a former college rower, I will definitely donate. A 2k is bad enough, a marathon is worse; to row the Pacific is something I deeply respect. I hadn't heard about this before, so I will definitely be watching.
