it worked this time around, but the last few days I was unable to post. SMF is horrible software to run a forum with this much traffic on. Probably a botched upgrade, I always had "issues" like this after upgrading.

Maybe you guys should read the rules at registration, instead of roll down and just click yes and agree?  Roll Eyes

Same issue here.  I can understand restrictions due to high traffic volumes, but it could easily be solved with a membership/donation option.

The restriction is simple, to avoid spam.

This is getting realy, realy annoying.

I must have read this 'restriction' a bit too fast, but the "NEWBIE README" isn't helpfull either:
Quote
You can only post in the Newbie and Local sub-forums till you have made one post and waited 4 hours. This post must be substantial: at least several sentences. The other two restrictions are you need 1 post to be able to send a PM and 10 posts to put a link in your sig.  You can only post once every 360 to start and there are a few other things that trigger this timer such as logging in and searching.

So euhm ... what is it that newbie's have to do to get rid of this super annoying limitation (as it's not mentioned anywhere in the readme) ?

Btw: does the system make a difference between a new topic and a reply or do both count as "post".

No difference. I wait about 3 hour, post some helpful things, and i am in. Easy as that.

I have to post to one specific thread and I can`t.

Haven`t seen this restriction nowhere else.
