So For some silly reason I assumed that the newbie restrictions were all time based not based on posting and then waiting.    I don't know why that is but I never noticed this.   I've been hanging out a lot in the marketplace, wanting to participate here and there but never been curious enough to figure out why I couldn't post or PM until now.    I'm glad I finally figured it out and it wasn't that difficult!   Is there a mention of this requirement in the new user registration email?

It's mentioned on the registration page:

Quote
RESTRICTIONS FOR NEW MEMBERS

After registering, you will be unable to post in any section except "newbies" until you have spent some time on the forum and have published a few posts.

If you are registering to ask a question, please ask it in the newbies section. Do not wait to ask it just because you must post it in "newbies": the question is very likely to have already been asked. If you don't end up getting good responses, you can ask it again elsewhere after you are established, or you can move the entire topic.

If you are commenting on Bitcoin, use your newbie wait time to read more about Bitcoin. If you are criticizing Bitcoin, find similar criticism using the search tool to see which points have already been covered. A good use of your newbie wait time is reading Satoshi's old posts.

Ah, didn't realize I could ask my question here instead of waiting. Going to do that now!

Would make for a pretty **** forum if no new people could post for the first month, wouldn't it.
I've been lurking for too long.  It's time to get in on the action.

It was on the registration page indeed, and from the read me here, the time seems 4h.

I think 4h is pretty long, a month would be pretty fucked up  Tongue

Likewise, long time lurker and bitcoin enthusiast but never had a need to sign up... Now entering the bitcoin business world and it's going to be great to have an active account.

Thanks and great work on this excellent forum.
