Rigs?

Hey guys!  Pretty new to the whole crypto scene but have been reading about it for more than a year, tried mining some bitcoins about 1year ago but did not have much luck..

Anyways, with all these alt coins popping up I am going to look around and see who seems serious and who does not and try to get some at the beginnins of them.. To my questions.

Is there anything special I should buy for a computer? A mining rig perhaps? Or are they outdated?

Maybe go for SLI's?  Please do share your wisdom with me as I am still mad for not buying bitcoins in 2011 when they were only a couple of $ and my friend adviced me to do so.

Before you waste your money, I'm going to stop you right there. nVidia SLI is a terrible idea, as nVidia GPUs just can't crunch cryptos as fast as AMD GPUs. This isn't fanboying, this is known fact. You can see here (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison) even though this is for Bitcoin the hashrates apply to scrypt-based cryptos like Litecoin if you divide the hashrate by 100. If you really want to get into GPU mining, I'd suggest buying some upper-end GPUs and diving into the alt coin market with Litecoin or Feathercoin. I don't know what's hot in the GPU/alt coin market since I've been out of it for quite some time. Good luck man!

Have thought about this a few times.  Makes a bit more sense to do it or at least start it in the winter, let us know how it goes, and which coins in particular are good mining if not switching around is best.
