I am new to all of this and I am wondering if I have a decent rig to mine any type of Scrypt Coins.

Please share with me what part of the hardware counts towards kh/s and if I should upgrade.

The only part of the system that impacts your hash rate is the video cards. Those 280x are not a bad choice. The 7950's can do better on a cost/hash ratio but good luck finding any.

Also, don't forget you need a power supply of at least 600W for that system, I would suggest closer to 750W as you will get a bit better power efficiency if your not running at near the max that your power supply can handle.

If you have a decent rig I'd say look into mining a scrypt altcoin.  I'm not sure which is best for you, that is something you'd have to look into but it could be worth the time in the long run.

Well, they did post here saying they want to mine exactly that, Scrypt-based coins, and that they wanted some tips on their rig which they posted, not 100% sure if you actually read the post O_o.

To OP:

Now as the other guy said, the 280x's are good but very power hungry, so you definitely want to see if you can find some 7950s because they produce very good hashrates while balancing (fairly) decent power requirements.

You probably wont see any 7950 in stock any time soon. So 280x is the way to go.
Or 290 if you are lucky enough, you could flash them with 290x bios.

Not all 290's can flash to 290x's, in fact the large majority of them can't. They may run the slightly higher clocks, but the shader count usually stays the same.

7950's are impossible to find, unless it's used. The 280x is power hungry, but it is about the only choice left besides the 270x with it's meager 400-450kh/s for $100 less.

You are wasting a lot of money on CPU and mobo though, and if it's a dedicated miner rig a 32gb SSD would be much much better compared to that spinner for ~$40. Memory is stupid expensive too, you should be able to find 8GB for closer to $55-60.

Buy a good power supply, you'll be needing it! Oh, and you do realize what sort of timeframe those 280x's will deliver in, right?

My black friday orders from newegg just finally shipped Monday, but had no cards at all in the orders. Just a lot of motherboards, power supplies, and ram sets... I was getting piiiised!

Ridiculous how bad scrypt coins put the hurt on the PC hardware market!
