Yeah, I guess Dogecoin will have to wait some time in order to be considered an alternative.
Just wait for the day it gets listed onto some major exchange like cryptsy or vircurex, and we'll see lists like "Top 7 DOGECOIN Alternatives"
Much Wow

One coin that has been on the back burner for some time now is GLD, GoldCoin. It has been creeping up in value and the network hashrate is picking up speed. I would not be surprised to see it on that list in near future. I created my own pool for it at gld.cloudmines.net and I am surprised at how many people jumped on it in such a short amount of time. I still think it is too early to judge Dogecoin but it seems to be gathering a lot of attention.

Devcoin is also pretty interesting. You have to buy it in bitcoin though and it does have some value.

You can also get paid to write, which I find is a smart way to start a coin.
Litecoin is an obvious second, good choices IMO Smiley

Peercoin will be the next big coin in my opinion as it has fast transactions and therefore good for small cost items.

You trade fast transaction time for security. 1 Bitcoin confirmation might be worth the same as dozens or probably hundreds Peercoin confirmations

What matter is computational power (the more, the less confirmations you need)

#1 Namecoin
#2 Litecoin
#3 Feathercoin
#4 NovaCoin
#5 PrimeCoin

Everyone has different preferences...
