Optimizing lots of different cards - firmware update?

Hello All!

I have been mining LTC but my rigs are definitely running sub-optimally. I have about 8 cards including 7970s, 7950s, 7770s and 5770s.

How does one increase the hashrate or output of these cards? Is hashrate all that matters?

I think I should update the firmware as I'm only getting 3-400kh/s from 7970 GHz editions
