Hey,

I`m aiming to create some Bitcoin-related applications as a part of my master thesis. I was looking for some protocol specifications or other programming guidelines for awhile now and can't find much. Does anyone have any materials useful for programming a wallet from scratch, or is my best bet to just go through the official source code and try to convert it over to what I need?

Thanks for any feedback.

Three projects that you might wish to look at:
 - Bitcoin Client (AKA Satoshi client, Classic Client) on github
 - BitcoinJ  http://code.google.com/p/bitcoinj
 - libbitcoin (From Bitcoin Consultancy) http://gitorious.org/libbitcoin/libbitcoin
