Did you try what I suggested earlier i.e. running 2 cards at I13 for a few minutes and note the GPU temps, then I14 and note the GPU temps and so on? Even if the PSU isn't the best, power becoming an issue after several hours of mining doesn't make sense. It's generally binary i.e. there's enough power or there isn't.

If you have both cards directly attached to the motherboard then would I be right in thinking that you're running this in a conventional PC case? If so you almost certainly have heat problems which is reinforced by the fact that problems start after an hour or two at higher intensities.

Yes. I-13: 63 and 61. I-14: 65 and 66. I-15: 68 and 72. ... i-16: 71 and 76

Extrapolating that out at roughly a 3 degree rise for each increment in intensity, you would be arriving at the mid-80s by I20. That shouldn't be a problem, but it's likely raising your overall system temperature pretty high too (again, I'm assuming from your posts that it's in a regular PC case?). Is there a setting in your BIOS that tells the system to shut down if overall system temps reach a certain level?

I think there is. What should be the value for that?

I need help on my mining rig. Im using 2x powercolor hd7950, 1x sapphire hd7950. Athlon 2 for processor, 4gb RAM, strike-x 1100w 80 plus gold PSU. GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD3 for mobo , 500gb HDD. im using GUIminer scrypt alpha v0.03. No problem on running 2 GPU at low usage i13 but when i start to run the 3rd GPU i13 low usage, pc shuts down. I tried running 2 GPUs at high usage i20, pc shuts down after running 2nd miner. No overclocking yet. Using AMD APP SDK 2.9.

AMPS!
Dude you can have how ever many watts coming in you want, but if your +12 aint stable, and for those cards, very strong, your gonna fry your PSU, and take only who knows what with it.

If you really want me to I can look up a damn good PSU for you, plenty of amps and rock solid in every aspect, but your going to pay for the PSU, your paying for the quality, then again seeing what is at risk at frying.... its a small price to pay than your whole system.

I am a bit late to the thread, but I will second everything BrewCrewFan lays out. You need a strong 12V bus in the PSU if you are going with 3 cards. Many of the lower priced PSUs will do all kinds of things to get a high wattage listed, but when it comes to mining you are putting them to the test and going to be using a lot of power 24x7 which will push weaker PSUs to the breaking point. Just be glad your system shut down and you didn't get away with running all three until the PSU shorted out, potentially taking your MB and three cards with it.

Seasonic is a good choice for 1000Watt+, I own a few of the 1250x units myself and have had good luck with them. I also have had good luck with Corsair in the 850 Watt range, but these will only push two cards.

Yeah hes looking at wanting at least 100 amps on that +12v just to be safe. When they state the need its usually high at first because it has to factor in all the system stuff too. If there is little demand on everything else the majority of the +12v can be for the video cards.

To the op, if you dont have the PSU to push the cards, I would highly sugest to back off and take at least one of them out until you got the funds for the new PSU. Im not saying it to be mean or anything, but I am really concerned about your hardware. I have blown up my fair share of hardware, and it can be nasty. Sometimes you do get lucky and its only the PSU that goes, but I have had the the mobo, gpu and ram all pop on me before...it was an expensive lesson.

Ok thanks. I will try all the options given to me. I'll go back to the store and try a different psu.

Woohooo!!!! Everything is working fine now. I changed my PSU from strike-x 1100w 80 plus gold to antec 1200w 80 plus gold and it's working now. i also removed the casing and use a bigger fan to regulate temperature. temp ranges between 70 - 75. using gpu clock 1050 on 3x HD7950 gives me hash rate range of 1700khash/s to 2100khash/s. Thanks for all the help!

Powercolor 7950 Minimum System Requirements: 500w PSU (850 w/ crossfire set-up)
Sapphire 7950 Minimum System requirements: 500w PSU (850 w/ cross-fire set-up)

powercolor x2 = 1000w (850 w/ crossfire)
sapphire x1 = 500w
Athlon II x1 = 45 - 80w depending on model

Total = 1395 - 1580+w
Your PSU = 1100w

**Edit: I should read the thread before answering**
