I have been working with the community and different Non Profits and Organizations in my hometown for 13 years throwing different events Breakdancing,Graffiti, Poetry, Art shows, Body Painting etc etc i started the 1st Hip Hop after school program in 2007. I have been working with Youth since 2002 when i worked with these organizations i was a noob i wondered why they would have the youth sign these documents age, race, where they lived i payed it no mine the 1st few years because i wasn't thinking that i wanted to have my own C.C. as time went by i noticed alot of false promises and i would always be the one to deliver the bad news. So i got to know the director of one of the organizations. I started asking questions he explained how they need to sign all that stuff because that's how they get grants and get paid. I was finally enlightened few years went by 2006 i worked with this independent organization that was a LLC working with DCF kids.
I started in the spring going into summer at 1st it was cool we would meet up i would pick em up have these sessions with them take them out to different golf courses. So then beginning of summer we had a meeting with the kids what they wanted to do for the summer time. We had it all planned out trip to Washington DC Sky diving six flags, Laser tag all the good stuff. Summer game we went to the golf course(great) we had fun the week went by and every weekend we were suppose to do a different activity. 1 weekend we did Golf 2nd weekend we stood inside because of transportation but after that it was the same repetitive stuff. I would pick up the kids break the news that we wouldn't be to the scheduled trip and they just started thinking crazy and acting crazy. It was a weird experience i stopped working with them at the end of that summer. I later found out that they were getting $5,000 per kid to be at that place we had 10 kids. I was pissed because they really robbed the youth of their summer. They were DCF kids so once they left houses or villages as they call it they would be with us. I felt like an asshole each time i was seriously was bothered by that experience. A year later i was a artist in residence for this place it again 1st few months was great in teaching the kids then boom deja vu. I had signed a year contract with these people and didnt have money to break the contract so that whole year after 4 months was teaching me so much and motivating me to get my own community center Bullshit free.
I was determined to start my own community center move forward to 2012/2013. I was driving by this old 2 floor social hall and thought hey that would be a cool location for a community center. I called the number and it was owned by this lawyer i had my meeting with him he liked my idea and let me have the community center rent free for the 1st 6 months. Great i thought wow dream come through but that was far from it straight bullshit from start till i ended the contract. The place had ceiling problems so much trash old food dead animals it was crazy. I put together a clean up day with a group of college kids we did some work that day. The place was semi presentable except for the 2nd floor ceiling problems. I received a phone call at 8:30am few weeks by a city inspector to meet at 11am at the center to be inspected cool i thought gives me a chance to promote the center to someone else in the city. 11am comes and a fire Marshall comes to the door i thought it was the guy i talked to in the morning. He explained to me that the guys were coming in a few minutes. I got confused so 10 minutes later in walk a police officer 2 inspectors and the fire Marshall. From the start they surround me i explained who i am and what i do. These men seriously stereotyped me cause of my looks Baggy pants hoodie hat. So the police officer starts we know what your trying to do here. i got confused again and asked what a community center. So apparently the social club was on their red flag list and because of my looks i was associated with whatever went on there in the past. I guess the previous owners would get people to pose as managers and stuff idk. They inspected the place saw the 2nd floor and were a worried about the structure of the ceiling so it needed some beam work. They deemed the place unsafe and until i got the beam fixed i wouldn't be able to open. i had to fund raise the money to try and get the temporary fixed.
So i did it i called the inspector he came down and told me it was done wrong so i was back to fundraising to get it fixed. So the lawyer that owned the building was some type of red flagged property owner who would buy places for cheap if they owed taxes and sell em for high prices. The city didn't like him to much so that caused alot of bullshit its a long story. Ending result i terminated my lease which the lawyer understood and was cool with all summer i was pissed off at everything then i read a silkroad article being busted and was curious what BTC was and how they made millions from virtual currency. I spent august till october learning reading different things then finally thought it would be cool to open up a space that's funded by BTC without all the bs and here i am asking for donations to hopefully rent out and open a BTC funded community center. I can give you guys links of things i've done with the city i have been on NPR for Heaven skatepark in Hartford. I just want to open up a space for youth free of grants surveys and politic bs. Im not much of a writer sorry grammer nazis and if my story went all over the place. I will answer any questions and forward almost any information.
