the Dynex is practically brand new (sitting my my garage still sealed) so there's been no degradation at all, but not sure if it's capable of running a gigabyte 270x with Core2Duo CPU 2GB ram and BAMT

I actually think you're just shy of what you'd need. You can feel free to ask around or wait to see if anyone with any first-hand experience can help you, but according to Gigabyte's website it says you need 500w.
