What's funny about this is that you need a LAW to make this happen in almost 2014. So who knows, it still may not happen! What doesn't the government control? They will try to regulate XBT around the world, and in some countries it will work. But hopefully there are enough free thinking countries left...

Lol, who actually uses cheques any more? Very few, even in the UK. Just read the article: The government believes a change in the law in the UK would also promote the continuing use of cheques.
The UK Payments Council was originally planning to abolish all cheque payments by 2018, but was forced to change its mind after public opposition. They really should've just killed them off. Hopefully Bitcoin can help with that.
