I'm wondering why there are no coins named Eurocoin (EUC) or (United)Dollarcoin (UDC) which have the goal to replace the fiat money with similar names. I think, the mass of people do believe in thinks there are familiar with. Coin names like dogecoin, catcoin or even bitcoin in some way sound untrustworthy to the most people.
Let me give an example: I live in Europe. The people I meet are losing more and more trust in the Euro currency. These people realize bit by bit that they will pay the bill of an insane idea reconciling quite opposite economies, and that the inflation is much more higher than the official publishing. When I try to explain them the manner and advantages of cryptocoins I have often faced the question: "Cryptocoin? Bitcoin? What the hell is a bit?". If someone is not familiar with basic computer science knowledge it is hard to convince people for that idea then. So, naming coins after real existing currencies can increase the interest and acceptance of people and even businesses.

What do you think?

Google "Nothaus silver dollars" to understand the legal complications in doing so (not saying it cannot be done, just why I would not do it and most devs would not invite such controversy either).

But there is an e-deutshcmark coin out there...

mm.. :p

But seriously: I think that would be only more confusing. Eurocoin so 1 eurocoin = 1 euro? No no, it's 0.062 euro per eurocoin right now. What the..?! Why it's not 1 euro? Etc. etc. Only confusing imo. Now it's at least something separate.

Personally when I explain it I just say bitcoin = digital gold and a way to send cheaply & instantly money thru the interwebs. Like gold the value can be different from time to time. I don't even mention cryptocoins or something.

Because we don't like how fiat money is operating and don't want to associate coins with that in the first place.

I already own some DEM coins.

Thanks for the "NotHaus silver dollars" hint.

for the same reason no one's mining Americancoin... if you're not an american, that coin fails just because of the stupid name. I love Orlando and Disney but I hate everything with an american flag fromt he gift shops because if I'm bringing back a souvenir I want it to be from Orlando or Disney, not the USA
