Hello.  First post.  Reading the guidelines to get past the newbie restrictions, it said to make the post "substantial."  Aiight, how's this...   Wink

I wanted to post an Nvidia cudaminer system.  It's my work/development/graphics/CAD/gaming system current mining w/2x Titans until I get my ATI cards in next week or two along with setting up a open air rig in the crawlspace:

- 4.7 Ghz 4930k X79 (big power suck) on Asus RIVBE
- 2x Titans, reference coolers, EVGA backplate. TMI replaced, along with high-performance thermal pads, VRM section cooled on back and heatsinks attached to backplate.  Flashed Skyn3t's v3 BIOS (1006 Mhz, no boost).
- EVGA 1300W G2

GPU Core: 1202 Mhz
Memory: 6000 Mhz (doesn't seem to matter)
Core voltage: -100 (lowest it will go, 1.15V, BIOS limited  + LLC Mod = 1.175V reality)

cudaminer -d 0,1 -i 0,0 -m 1,1 -l T14x32 -H 1
^- x32 uses 4.3 GB of vram

Power usage 10.3 Amps * 116V = 1194 W = 1.2 Khash/J

^- the 11 failures were because of memory overclocking at 7,400 Mhz.  Once to put it back to stock at 6,000 Mhz, it ran for 5 hours without a single drop.

^- Also note that the TDP for this custom BIOS has been increased to 375W @ 100% Power Target.

It should be noted that I haven't had a single "Display Driver" crash or system failure/crash yet.  The power draw at 1225 Mhz is just insane at 190%+ Power Target, not to mention the temps shooting up to 90+.  These Titans are begging for water cooling to go higher.  But, I'd rather spend that money on the ATI cards coming in - if I ever do it again.

Nvidia can mine scrypt.  Not very power efficient, but they can.  I stole the Titans for dirt cheap (a couple of hundred less than the 780 Ti), with ACX coolers (which sucked with two, removed) and backplates.  So ignore the "investment" argument as this machine is used for other purposes.

Aww, no love for Nvidia?  ATI cards are on order... just using what I got for now.  Smiley

I am now convinced that using the Temp Target limiter actually lowers the voltage even further than I can using MSI Afterburner/EVGA PrecisionX.  Using those tools, when I force the voltage all the way the lowest it will go, the volts read 1.175.  Which is actually 1.175 + 0.025v due to the LLC being disabled with the mod I have, for a total of 1.2V.

I can't get it any lower.  Temps sky-rocket to 87 to 94C if I remove all checks (300% PT, 1202 mhz core, etc).

But, when using the Temp Target set to 80C - it must remove voltage over down-clocking.  My volts are reading 1.100 now, plus the 0.025v from LLC for a total of 1.125V!  That's lower that I could ever set in the tool manually.  And, my cores are hovering around 1163 Mhz on an 1202 Mhz overclock.

So, I'm guessing:

Temp Target hitting = voltage reduced as priority, core speeds stay somewhat stable.
Power Target hitting = core speed reduced as priority, voltage remains high.

I've also backed down the "warps" as someone mentioned down to T14x30 which lowered the memory used from 4.3 GB down to 3.9 GB.  The entire command line is:

cudaminer -d 0,1 -i 0,0 -m 1,1 -l T14x30,T14x30 -H 1

This combination now yields, at 80C Temp Target:

[2014-01-05 12:58:32] GPU #0: GeForce GTX TITAN, 23802240 hashes, 700.59 khash/s
[2014-01-05 12:58:32] GPU #1: GeForce GTX TITAN, 10940160 hashes, 695.48 khash/s
[2014-01-05 12:58:39] GPU #0: GeForce GTX TITAN, 4945920 hashes, 701.44 khash/s
[2014-01-05 12:58:39] accepted: 360/363 (99.17%), 1397 khash/s (yay!!!)
[2014-01-05 12:58:43] GPU #0: GeForce GTX TITAN, 2244480 hashes, 704.56 khash/s
[2014-01-05 12:58:43] accepted: 361/364 (99.18%), 1400 khash/s (yay!!!)

@ 1089 Watts at the wall!  Using hte Temp Target actually down-volted it further than I could manually, which saved the wattage.  Having the temp target set to 80C, all I do now is turn the fan down to acceptable levels when I am working on the rig (100%, down to 70%).  This lowers the hashing, yes, but voltage gets really low - down to 1.000V.  I'm liking this.

Fast-pool says I am submitting at 1693 khash/s though.  Not sure which one is more accurate.

Anyhoot, Temp Targetting in the 700 series I think is the key for the best power consumption vs temp vs noise levels.  If you don't care about noise, set the fan to 100% and let the temp target down-volt the cores for you!  Though, you still want to lower the voltage as much as you can first - it goes even lower.

I have submitted for updates to the Mining Hardware Comparisons online - but none have been updated.  Basically, Titans can do 700 khash/s with a custom BIOS at 80C.  My home office is a little toastie at 71F, with no ventilation.  I do have a fan blowing cool air from the hallway into my office, which in turn forces the hot air out top to heat the rest of the upstairs at a nice 68F.  The boss (wife) likes this setup!
