I just wish people would start posting in the right section, add sub forums but most don't use them unless it gets moved there.

Thats because most are posted by noobs. Then again if half the coins got posted in the right subforum, no one would see it or care lol. I know I tend to stay out of there for the most part or check to see new pools of current coins if I need a few more failovers.

Free SIGNs giving everyday. Be part, do not miss!.

but seeing as how people are these days don't read, don't care, and then come out with an entitled mindset that flies in the face of rationality - let the nukes fly.

You hit the nail on the head with "entitled mindset". Everyone is an expert today.

I think they should require you to pass a brief test to register on the forum. Demonstrate that you have done at least some basic research about cryptocurrencies before joining to post dipshit questions, and that your IQ is higher than 50. Would drop the number of members by about 30% or more though..

There's a rumor circulating that ...

Where? If you are telling something like that, better give us a link to somewhere...

Well they have said it's something they've discussed or are discussing. There's mentions over in Meta somewhere.

They have said it many times. It was brought up a lot in the thread where they announced that giveway threads were no longer allowed in altcoin subforum. Several mods said this. It's no secret.

No, more than likely the Alt Coin section wont go entirely, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more restrictions if people aren't willing to cooperate just a little bit. We say that there are no more giveaway threads allowed because they are spamming the board, taking up server resources, and people are abusing them to get their post counts up. We provide fairly simple suggestions, like host giveaways on a coin's own forums, twitter, facebook, whatever, and even allow people to post giveaway announcements here, but just ask that they collect the spamload of addresses elsewhere. The response? People telling us to put them back, make a giveaway section (although we explain 20+ times that that wouldn't solve a single issue) and ten threads about how the admins hate Alt Coins and are scared that they will threaten Bitcoin. All of those things are answered, and no one listens and keeps on complaining, its just frustrating.

Despite how every so often I'd grind my teeth and imagine what everyone would do if the Alt Coin section was removed just to teach everyone a lesson, then I imagine that people would just post Alt Coin stuff elsewhere in the forum and we would have no place to move it besides the Trash, which is why the Alt Coin section was made in the first place. Its a tool that we do need here, not because Alt Coins have a right to be here, but because banning them from the forum in its entirety isn't fair, and we don't want alt coin conversation outside of the section.

Well they have said it's something they've discussed or are discussing. There's mentions over in Meta somewhere.

What we are discussing is what to do about Paid Signature advertising.

"vires in numeris"
POWER IN NUMBERS!

Fine let them delete the ALT COIN forum. I will start a Anti Bitcoin Rally never seen b4 and a force to heard. Bitcoin is 4 year old obsolete prototype software at Best. Holds no real or true value other than a few bucks at most. Bitcoin is becoming communistic and so is this forum. Prolly why it does so good in CHINA. The reason I stoped supporting Bitcoin a long time ago is because I mostly just do not like Bitcoiners. They are arrogant, dickish, and have an all around bad attitude.

It's really a question of what they contribute to the crytpo community, not Bitcoins. Altcoins have some great ideas, and great ideas come from their continued development which ripple through the crypto ecosystem. Great people are involved. However, the altcoin subforum, much like the Bitcoin speculation subforum, have a disproportionate amount of spam associated with them which contribute absolutely nothing to the crypto community and really have no place on a crypto board looking to advance cryptocoins. There's no reason for this forum to give priority to post counts and ad revenue. This forum could operate comfortably and grow until theymos dies at a ripe age without needing new revenue.

So - this suggests theymos would give priority to advancing cryptocoins of all kinds and to increase ease-of-use for users in accessing information. I think it'd be hard to argue that banning spam and "dust" topics in the altcoin sections is a net detriment for altcoins, and that altcoins benefit Bitcoin (along with the crypto space in general), so it's all about reducing barriers to finding important information and disincentivizing spam. Banning altcoin discussion from the board entirely would be a lazy mistake, I think, as it'd segment the community unnecessarily, and afaik, theymos hasn't suggested he'll do anything of the sort.

I believe there are ulterior motives to those seeking to polarize the issue and turn it into an "us vs them" by distorting theymos' goals and pretending all participants in the altcoin subforum are in the "us" category, but I don't explicitly know theymos' goals, so... *shrug*
