BFL have chopped 40% of their current generation ASICS (65nm). They've also dropped their price for next gen ASICs by over 50%.

I wonder why. Is the demand for ASICs weakening? Maybe they expect the difficulty level to go through the roof soon.

Any ideas?

I think its more so diminishing returns, they know customers wont break even with older products highly priced and there was a significant markup from before...

This might be a shrewd attempt to increase the network hash, driving difficulty up, thus increasing demand on faster rigs.  Or maybe I'm just looking into it too much...

I know a lot of people have strong opinions about BFL, but with this price drop, the 50GH miner looks like a good deal. What am I missing? Will it take months to show up even though they say it is "in stock?" Their shipping prices are outrageous -- $68 for regular, $258 for expedited? Crazy.

Probably just an economics thing...can't charge full rates for a machine that is not performing as well as it was (due to the difficulty always increasing).

they know that the people here are smartening up when it comes to prices. They might have 1000 items in stock and they want to dump them before they become truly worthless.

Still in presale mode?
My bet is that BFL is trying to anticipate the delivery of competitive products to market sooner than their next gen products.

It's not just BFL products. The ASICMiner cubes and blades have been dropping also. Especially the cubes, by about 25%

It's nice to see market forces at work for the mining community.

Because you will not get your miner anyway. They will not deliver, just like always.

Depending on which calculator you use they will never break even.
I guess BFL knows that and tries to get the little guy who does not know it.

I wonder if it's something like they need the money to keep operations rolling so they're looking for every last penny.  This is speculation but how many backorders do they already have now?

This makes me sick. According to their site they had units ready to ship on Dec 11. So I jumped in and ordered a 25 gh unit as they were one of the only company's offering units IN STOCK ready to ship.
Now here we are 3 weeks later and the unit is still at the production facility. I opted for express shipping and still the unit sits. Now I get an email giving the option to double the size for less money? Wow am I frustrated.
I would recommend not ordering from BFL get on a another list somewhere as they will deliver around the same time. Looking like March

It's just sickening how they are cheating on people.
For devices they claim to have in stock I would expect next day sending and with express delivery within 3-4 days after payment.

I bought from them once and I will never do it again.

BFL just seems to be surfing the hype on ignorant people. After reading all these, I'd say your money is even more 'safe' if you invest it in BTC. :p

I finally received the BFL unit on 9 Jan 2014 . Now I'm messing with the setup, started mining, and setting up wallets. Now I'm trying to show proof to the boss "wife" this actually works. So I can get the go ahead to purchase a larger mining unit.
