Including, of course: "Virtual currencies are often linked to the purchase of illegal items, namely drugs, thanks to transactions being extremely difficult to trace."

Agreed. It's pathetic. All these shitty altcoins just make bitcoin look like a joke to people that haven't heard of it.

Agree, it's an embarrassment. Would rather the knowledge of these are restricted to in-jokes of the experienced bitcoiners.

Well if you can create a coin to that can get free media attention like that, then why not!  I think with so many coins being created, you need something that will give you an extra lift.

Wait, so they want to remain anonymous while doing everything they can to encourage as many people as possible to run their program the moment it's released?

That's a remarkably fine veil for a horse!

Christians demand JesusCoin

I saw JesusCoin yesterday on http://coingen.io.

That site is going to make altcoins balloon up from 70 to 700,000 in January alone.

-At which point the very word "altcoin" will be associated with spam and viagra because every marketer in the world will be begging you to mine their coin.

Great news for bitcoin!

Holy cow, I was wondering when this kind of thing might happen Cheesy

Are we going to be seeing a cryptocurrency engine coming out now that's designed to let people edit stuff really easily like in a game engine?

Our enemies have realized that the best way to destroy the Bitcoin is to do so from the inside.

I don't get the furor, except from the Litecoin guys - who are rightly terrified that their tenuous status as "sliver" to Bitcoin's "gold" is being threatened. Yes, it is, welcome the darwinian thunder-dome of alt-coins. It may kill them actually, as the miners fragment to mine their favorite one.

As for the rest, they have the market penetration of a wet piece of cardboard against a granite block, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Unless you're not number one, of course.
