DOGE is currently a safe bet to mine, but not to hold IMHO.

BTC and LTC are the only safe coins to hold.

Also keep watching how CPU coins like XPM, PTS, QRK etc. are doing.

I am not sure on mining.. is it hard to do? I have a laptop..  I have Bitcoin that I got for Christmas and was told about this site. I was told that I should be investing in ALT coins but there seems to be a lot. I don't have much Bitcoin only like 0.25 Bitcoin cents or BTCs whatever they are called I would have posted this in another section but It would only let me post here. Thank you ..

Good coins for what?

To mine?

To hold on to?

To buy?

There are a lot of options

Ones that are holding their value and have potential to go higher in my opinion are Bitcoin and litecoin maybe feathercoin.

Ones to mine depends on your hardware and depends on if your looking to hold on to them for a while or sell them right away

Don't invest in alt coins. Don't invest in things you don't understand. Learn first, then act. There will always be alt coins to invest in, so there is no urgent need to act now.

As was said before, first thing to do is to study about bitcoin, alt coins and trading in general. Then think, are you willing to lose most of it? If not, maybe holding BTC will be the most safe way (also you can still lose if BTC goes down Smiley).

There are a lot of good coins out there. I would say LTC, NMC, FTC, PPC are the ones that I trust the most due to the following and the dev support. That is just my personal opinion and people may disagree but from the years that I have been involved with crypto those are the ones that I trust.

Apart From just BTC LTC I suggest check for TAGcoin and WorldCoin too. currently TAG has some fork issue. but if you leave this apart, they are working hard to make TAG as currency rather than just Commodity.
