If I am buying something with bitcoin and I need to send the transaction number, where do I get this?  I'm not really sure what I should be sending.  Thanks

https://blockchain.info/

Input your btc# and you can see the list of transactions. I am not sure what you mean by transaction number.

What Bitcoin client are you using? Try double clicking on the transaction for more info

The question you should be asking is why do you need to do this. If someone is asking you for your transaction ID as proof that the transaction was sent by you, they are incompetent, as sending the transaction ID doesn't prove anything. Remember, Bitcoin transactions are public, so anyone else can see your transaction and claim it is theirs. If a vendor is managing their payment system competently, they can tell the transaction is yours without asking you anything.
