Which Sapphire r9-290 are you using? Here's a list http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=0&psn=000101&lid=1&leg=0

It's the  R9 290 4GB GDDR5 BATTLEFIELD 4 EDITION.

I've been searching the net all weekend and trying different setups,   So far I haven't found anyone over the 900kh/s mark with this card.

1 trick I found was to remove the mounting plate which lets the air flow out the back quicker.  This dropped the temp by about 5c which in turn drop the power usage by 10w per card.

Very true,  I will even be slowing it down a bit once I've done it.  I'll happily run at 850 day in day out because I know I can trust that to run 24/7

It's just the fun of the challenge
