txNew.vout[0].scriptPubKey
public ECDSA key

What is the purpose of this public key in the main.cpp? what is suppose to do? Where do you keep the private part of it? Does private key ever get used?

if you're talking about this: (From litecoin git)

Code:
txNew.vout[0].scriptPubKey = CScript() << ParseHex("040184710fa689ad5023690c80f3a49c8f13f8d45b8c857fbcbc8bc4a8e4d3eb4b10f4d4604fa08dce601aaf0f470216fe1b51850b4acf21b179c45070ac7b03a9") << OP_CHECKSIG;

It's a bitcoin address to receive the first coins generated in the genesis block. I played around with it last summer when I cloned litecoin to create a national virtual currency for Finland Cheesy (which never got launched) 84% of all coins were generated quickly in the genesis block instead of premining and appeared in the wallet as usual. I've read somewhere that the coins generated in genesis block could not be used but didn't test it for the project got stalled out of having nobody responsible enough to handle the distribution of all those coins. The private key you import into your wallet to access the coins.

I suggest you learn the basics and crawl through a few forum threads. Everything you need to know is likely already available in Bitcoin wiki or this forum.
