Mining company Ocean Falls Blockchain plans to expand its operations in the canadian Ghost town.
Miners-nomads Miners can be compared to the” soldiers of fortune " of the 21st century. They move around the world in search of a suitable place to conduct their activities. For many years the most popular destinations were Scandinavia and China (in particular, the regions of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang). However, in recent years, to engage in mining in China is becoming more and more difficult, resulting in miners direct their eyes to North America, or rather to Canada and the Northern regions of the United States, where miners are provided with a cool climate and cheap hydropower.
Ocean Falls Most often, miners in search of a cozy place with the most reasonable electricity bills rush to small towns and villages. This is how the once noisy five thousandth town of ocean falls in British Columbia (Canada), where less than 100 people now live, came to the attention of “cryptocurrency miners”.
Attempts to revive ocean falls were made earlier, casinos and installations for water bottling came to the town, but all of them failed, primarily because of the extreme remoteness of the settlement, which can be reached only by plane or by water.
However, the place was very attractive for miners. So far, the functioning dam produces about 13 megawatts of electricity, of which the local population consumes only about a third. Ocean Falls Blockchain plans to purchase about 6 megawatts by the end of 2018.
The arrival of the mining company will give a chance for revival for a small canadian town, which gives hope to the local population, which, however, has seen such attempts more than once, which causes a fraction of reasonable skepticism from the watchmen.
