Hello everyone,

Last few days I'm thinking about ALT index for most popular altcoins (that trading somewhere). I think it will be pretty useful for market analysis.

And I understand, that calculate it as the sample mean will be wrong. Maybe more correct is a weighted mean based on their Max Supply, Circulating Supply, Number of transactions or Volume - I don't know.

That's why for me important your opinion and your view on how this "ALT" index should be calculated.

I did not understand correctly, do you want to make an index for all altcoins or for each altcoin its own index? In the first case, you have the problem that many altcoins are no longer in demand and that will affect the end result (ie altindex). In the other case, you again have the problem that there are already a huge number of altcoins that will simply have index 0, and no longer interesting.

I honestly don't see much point in yet another index, unless it adds a completely new flavor of how we can rank coins based on different metrics instead of what index sites such as Coinmarketcap already provide.

Every metric you listed already exists, where some index sites even allow you to compile your own top list of crypto currencies based on metrics you think are important. It's a crowded part of the industry which is very difficult to penetrate.

I might sound a bit negative, but unfortunately I can't make it look more pretty.

There may be some altcoin indexes already, but indeed not too well known.
I did a search for them and I've found an announcement about an altcoin index fund-like business attempt, which seems to be dead (CRYPTO25). However, it could be useful to check at least their 4th post, where some weights are shown.

So you should clearly do some more research, maybe the answers, or something close to that, are already available.
