http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11196633

This is exciting for me as I live in Auckland.
Publicity for Bitcoin in New Zealand has been very underwhelming.
This comes with the same news of 100 ATMs in ozzie.

I wonder if a whole bunch of bitcin ATMs on the street is really bullish short term...... if people on the street are buying, doesnt that mean price is going to drop?

More people buying means more demand, usually leading to a price rise.
____

Any idea who makes the ATMs they're buying? Imported?

edit:

Do you know what kind of identity verification they use? The Robocoin (Vancouver) uses palmprints, while the BTM (Toronto) uses cellphone verification.

I told myself I was going to buy 1 bitcoin when the ATM arrived in Auckland but that was before the huge price rise last year. Now I'm not so sure  Grin

I wonder how they'll price the coins? BitNZ doesn't have a lot of liquidity. Bitcoinaverage.com maybe?

Im refering to sentiment. that historically when the mainstream invests the asset must be close to the top.

Sorry, dont know who makes them or how they will work.

The first mention of an ATM destined for Auckland I saw was in this article: http://www.coindesk.com/lamassu-ships-first-bitcoin-atm/

Thanks for the info. A quick google gives precious little info about the company though.

The CEO is from New Hampshire USA, the hardware (or some of it) is made in Portugal, and their website has a TLD of .is which I believe is Icelandic.

Their ATM itself reminds me of one that was unveiled at Bitcoin Decentral in Toronto on New Year's Day. They displayed 2 ATMs, 1 floor model made in Ottawa Ontario, called BTM, and a countertop model which I recall as looking much like the Lamassu.

Further inquiry continues.

Edit: I just saw a video with the countertop ATM at Bitcoin Decentral and it's definitely not a Lamassu. I guess I was hung over on New Year's Day.  Sad

These ATMs are produced by Robocoin (Nevada). They use palmprints to ensure that people dont transact more than $1000 per day without ID verification as per money exchangers.

Pretty dumb to have an Icelandic domain name as it's one of only 2 countries in the world to completely ban bitcoin.
