From time to time, we hear different stories being told by victims who lose a considerable amount of his Bitcoin, Ethereum etc. Majority of these cases were the result of an indirect attack, a phishing incident or scam.
With the right information, all these incidents are easily preventable with the right security measures in place.
Protecting your Bitcoin or Ethereum may seem like an overwhelming task, but it implies the same precautions and best practices that you would take with your online banking.

Protect yourself from hackers
Using a strong wallet company e.g. Jazz won’t save you if you don’t save yourselves. If you do not do your part to protect your account, no amount of back-end security will prevent hackers from stealing your Bitcoin.
It's a bit like keeping your house safe. Even the most technologically advanced door lock will not keep you safe if you leave the door wide open. Hackers tend to exploit the weakest link in any security system.

With some simple considerations, you can improve your security by tens:
•   Enhanced Strong Password Security: Use an unusual password with at least 16 characters and never share it
•   Enable two-factor authentication: This means that no one can access your account without accessing your phone
•   Protect your email account: Use a secure, unique, and complex password and turn on two-factor authentication
•   Lock your account: If you think your account is compromised, lock it.

Learn to detect scams and phishing
Phishing attacks occur when criminals create a website or email that appears to belong to a trusted company. By using this cloning, they deceive you by giving them important details, including your login or payment information.
You can receive an email from your Bitcoin or Ethereum Wallet provider asking you to verify some recent activity. When you click on the link in the email, you may have to re-enter your payment information. If you do that, the criminals have your information.
To avoid being a victim of a phishing attack, take note of the following:
•   Always check the URL of a website before logging in
•   Enter the URL directly instead of searching on Google for the name of the company
•   Never share your password or payment information by e-mail or message
•   Pay attention to your intuition: if something seems wrong, read it again
•   Do not offer your data for no reason and be careful with sensitive information (for example, your PIN)
•   Check the address before replying to emails
•   If you are unsure of a website, try to login with a fake password

You must be careful what you signing up and be careful for clicking links. And you don't share your password to your friend you must keep it and try to avoid using your email that you used on your wallet.

The easiest way to protect yourself from these hacks, scams and phishing and is not to use web wallet at all, MEW and other wallets online so in case you're not in good condition to check those things you're safe. And you can do it by purchasing and using hardware wallets.

Totally agree, cannot be sure when keeping it online.
You can also go the cheapest way and make a "cold storage" by simply printing public and private key together. And make sure you keep it in the safe place.
