Linux vs Windows ease of setup

I downloaded guiminer and it worked right away. Still no luck getting anything to work on my Ubuntu 11.04 setup. I get tons of conflicts with one dependent package conflicting with another (oh, if you invited him, then I'm not coming to the party!)

This is a real pity, as I want to switch from Windoze to Linux completely. I feel pretty much at home on the command line and in control of my system.

Have the rest of you had luck installing on Linux?

bitcoind (daemon and command line client) has been available for Debian Unstable for some time, and works without any problems. Based on that I would assume it will also be available on the next Ubuntu release.

EDIT: installing from external sources may be an easy option as well, I just wanted to mention the 'official' status.

Why don't you try Linuxcoin or BAMT (see project development section for info). I use Linuxcoin atm, and it was very easy to set up.

Running ubuntu 11.04 and had no issues really. You have to install the restricted AMD drivers (though "additional hardware") and then the OpenCL (stream sdk) drivers from AMDs website. The latter requires some command line and the installation  actually produced some errors for me, but  it works fine. Small word of warning, after installing opencl (stream SDK) the installer will reboot your system no questions asked.

Same issues here, I give up on Linux and get a Windows 7 instead.  Maybe I am more familiar with Windows setup than with Linux.

I'm rubbing Ubuntu 11.04 also and I have no problems

I'm rubbing 10.4 for my main server and rubbing 10.10 for my miners. I haven't got the updates worked out quite right so all the miners want to download the updates, but they have been rock solid for almost a month now.

I think i will test soon the BAMT as it seems very easy and seems to have all the goodies to see if all runs fine
