Note: the reason while i listed all these is because of I noticed that bitcointalk exist through Twitter, i registered and today I'm here, so if people can notice bitcointalk through Twitter its applicable to other social media.
You probably learnt of Bitcointalk on Twitter through an unofficiall means as the official account is not very active. I have gotten back links to this forum when browsing other platforms like Reddit, Bitcoinstackexchange and some other websites. So, yes, it is applicable to other websites.
As a new project dev, you'll likely not get backlinks to your site as it is relatively unknown, so all the buzz you create would be generated from you using the website which is most fitting to the product you are marketing and also where you are likely to get your target audience. The other platforms can be used to create hype and lead back to the original publication.
For example;
• You announce an ICO on this forum with all information about the project ~ because it is most fitting here.
• To create more hype, you can run bounty campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and telegram to promote the project leading people to the thread on bitcointalk ~ because some of your target audience may be on those websites.
• All promotions would ultimately lead back to your website, where readers turn to investors.
