To Premine or not to Premine? That is the question.

So I have a noobish question.

I understand why miners don't like premine on a new coin because it gives the dev the ability to pump and dump and cash in on other people's efforts, but then if they don't premine what is the benefit to them to create/release/maintain a new altcoin?
