Can you explain a bit more about the background politics for the candidates please?
As much as I can.
- Musa Kwankwaso, (63 years of age), is a two time governor (Kano state in Nigeria). His last tenure ended in 2015. He's also a current senator. He contested the primaries for the last presidential election and lost, to the current president. He proposes to contest again. But under a different party.
- Atiku Abubakar, (72 years of age) is a former governor, (Adamawa state) and a two time vice president, his last tenure ended in 2009. He is also a successful business man.
- Bukola Saraki (56 years of age), is the current senate president of the federal Republic of Nigeria. He is also a former two time governor of Kwara state.
All this candidates all have a sound educational background. And are all vying for the one spot, in the biggest opposition party, PDP.
Their tenures, met with different levels of successes and failures.
Saraki, has a little edge over the others owing to his age, and the general outcry against the constant rotation of power among a few men for over the past 50 years.
Just like the current president, Mohammadu Buhari, who is sure to run again for the ruling party, APC. He last served as head of state in 1985, and regained power 30 years later in 2015. His current tenure had met with a lot of failures in my opinion, and Nigerians desperately need a change, which ironically was his campaign mantra.
More names would definitely be thrown into the hat in the coming months. But, the hat barely fits the masses.
