Investigation involving crypto-currency company
Tuesday, 15 January 2019 - 9:50pm
National News
Police were advised late yesterday of an issue involving potential un-authorised transaction activity at the Christchurch based crypto-currency trading company Cryptopia.

A significant value of crypto-currency may be involved and Police are taking this very seriously.

We are currently talking to the company to gain a further understanding of what has occurred.

A dedicated investigation team is being established in Christchurch including specialist police staff with expertise in this area.

Police are also liaising with relevant partner agencies in New Zealand and overseas.

The investigation is still in its very early stages and police are unable to provide further information tonight

We expect to provide an update tomorrow.

That is why I don't trust centralized exchange. I have a few coins left from the site and I think they will never give our coins back.

I don't know if it's real that they are hacked or maybe this is an inside job? If I'm right maybe they are instant millionaire due to many coins stuck from their website.

I hope they come back up but I am suspicious that this maybe an inside job as almost always when a security breach happen at this level, I can't explain otherwise all these hacked exchanges. Never keep a significant amount of your crypto capital in an exchange which is administered by a third party, people you don't know and even if you know the people that is no warranty at all that bad things will not happen.

Glad my Cryptopia account only contained dust. Another shitty exchange goes down.

Ok, I want you to walk back in there and very calmly, very politely tell the risk assessors to fuck off! -Mark Baum

Well, there goes my dust  Grin. I feel bad for anyone who did suffer losses thanks this breach Cry, know how it feels like thanks to BitGrail.

This occasion once again shows that exchanges, even the ones that have been around for a long time, could still have some weak spots that haven't been discovered.
Always keep your coins in an offline wallet.
