Encouraging developers is essential, they are the ones who help improve Bitcoin's technology and make Bitcoin as widely used as it is today. A bonus fund is needed to encourage their efforts.
Like Ethereum, they previously had a bounty fund to encourage developers, which is currently exhausting and developers are attracted to other platforms with higher funding budgets like Binance, TRON.
The more Bitcoin is upgraded, the farther ahead the future of Bitcoin is. That shows the role and importance of the developer for Bitcoin.

If a big corporation wants to give you money, you will have to give something in return. Sad
I don't believe that Coinbase wants to support Bitcoin Core developers only because of their faith in Bitcoin.
What if Coinbase provides financial support only to Bitcoin Core projects, which benefit the company in one way or another?
I know that consensus is need for approval of changes in the Bitcoin Core source code, but can a big wealthy corporation "bribe" more Bitcoin Core developers into approving a soft fork, which could potentially increase the control of Coinbase over the blockchain? This is just a hypothesis.I don't know the answers of those questions.

Doing "good deeds" can benefit companies. Plenty of companies are involved in charity for example, sometimes they get a tax write-off, but even then, it's a cost, it would be cheaper not to do it. They do it because it helps their image, it's good publicity, so indirectly, it's good for business.

If a dev were to accept this offer, would they be subject to the same stipulations other Coinbase employees are now forced to adhere to?
Despite all that can be said about Coinbase and their policies, I don't think such a scenario might happen. After all they are proposing to sponsor core devs not to recruit them.
I am really curious to know who are the two devs who will be accepted in this program though!

Are they going to disclose those 2 devs after selection? I don't think so.

That is something very nice that coinbase is going to do for sure , since developers and software engineers do face a lot of problems with limited funds , people who are not willing to support a crypto related project. A lot of resistance from the government itself.
I believe with this they will be able to give them not only support but confidence to the new developers /engineers.

See I understand for a fact that coinbase haven't been the best when it comes to using bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies in a positive way and trying to get politics involved with bitcoins is very catastrophic but I do think I support their idea of supporting the new developers as long as they don't ask for a share in the project or try and use it in negative ways, rest it's a good step , if they are looking forward to correct their mistakes.

Doing something good for the community I think Huh??

I believe it is more on building up their image. How much the funds allocated to them, we don't know. So this initiative I think is more on getting positive points from the community. But nevertheless, it will motivate the chosen developers to do their best as they have funds to spend with. I hope they will truly contribute something significant to the bitcoin core development.

Not certain if this is to assist bitcoin as entire or only for Coinbase's own plan. They are essentially going around out there attempting to make 'great deeds' reasonably as of late and it's kinda dubious, knowing how they attempted to impact the improvement of bitcoin in their little plans path back when the discussions about the fork are all over. It's cool that they will boost the charitable effort of the center engineers, however sooner or later you will truly see that there is by all accounts a more profound importance behind these 'great deeds' that they have been displaying for as long as barely any months.
