Hello,

I got the pop up from the hackers trying to get me to download their software to hack my BTC.

I downloaded the exe file but did not execute it as I smelt something phishy.

I did some checking and realized what the deal was and deleted the file and downloaded the proper file from this site. https://electrum.org/#download

The problem is that with the upgraded Electrum, my Keepkey is no longer recognized even though it works fine in the Chrome plug in.

I have updated the Keepkey firmware and nothing works. Any ideas what might be the issue and how to fix it?

I'd suggest you open an issue on the Electrum GitHub here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues

It is possible that the KeepKey integration has been broken by changes in the newer version. One way to test this theory would be to download an older version from the Electrum download server (https://download.electrum.org/), say version 3.3.3... and see if the KeepKey works with that older version.

If it works with 3.3.3 (ie. it is connected/recognised), but doesn't work with the latest 3.3.4 version, then you'll need to open an issue on the GitHub linked above letting the devs know that it is broken...

Can you show us some information such as Electrum version, KeepKey firmware version and OS you use? If you use Linux, most likely the permission to access USB device to an application is disabled.

Without much information, i only can suggest re-install Electrum from official website and check if your USB cable is broken/defective.

The cable works fine as the Keepkey will work with the Chrome Keepkey plug in.
So, it seems like an Electrum issue.

It seems that you already started a topic about your issue in electrum GitHub? from here https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/5165

According to "SomberNight" in electrum Github, his keepkey is working fine with the latest electrum wallet.

I found some post from Reddit and found this post below.

Are you using windows 10? If so we are aware of a USB driver issue affecting some Windows 10 users that causes some usb devices (including KeepKeys) to not be detected. Our development team is currently working to find a solution. For now please contact KeepKey support at support@keepkey.zendesk.com, thanks for your patience!
It posted by their support team.

So, it means it's a driver issue that's why the USB isn't recognized. The only solution that you need to do is to downgrade your OS or switch to Linux OS. However, According to SomberNight on GitHub, it's working fine with the latest Electrum version so the issue is in your PC there is something wrong with your driver.
Did you try to contact the support@keepkey.zendesk.com ? If not, do this first.

Or check your device manager in your PC and do a screenshot then post it here I'll try to help you find the issue may be the keepkey is recognized but there is something blocking it.
Have you tried to disable the windows defender? Maybe this is because of your antivirus that is why it isn't recognized.

Did you try downgrading Electrum like I suggested? the 3.3.3 releases (and associated digital signatures) are available on the Electrum download server here: https://download.electrum.org/3.3.3/

You should be able to simply download the "standalone .exe" version (electrum-3.3.3.exe) and run it from any directory and it will use your normal Electrum data directory and wallets etc. It is the easiest way to test various versions (without having to uninstall/reinstall etc).

Otherwise, you might need to try and forcefully remove the KeepKey drivers using Device Manager, then "re-install" it.

Yes, I tried 3.3.3 and it is still not recognizing it. I used the standalone version. I removed the device from the device manager, then unplugged Keepkey and plugged in again. Booted up 3.3.3 and it keeps saying to connect the device though it IS connected. So, this might not be a version issue.

I will try on another PC. I am wondering if it has to do with where the wallet files are stored?

It seems that you need to install is the Electrum under Python sources from electrum.org just got the idea from here https://keepkey.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001530304-Electrum-KeepKey-Integration-Windows-7-8-10-

Did you install the PyQt5 in your windows PC as electrum.org required? If not do this first then run the electrum though python. This time it should be work because as you said that the device is detected through chrome plugin so the problem here is the electrum, not a driver or anything else.

Follow the guide from the link above and you will solve this issue(Don't forget to replace the version to latest version).

Hmmmm... maybe try older versions like 3.2.3 (https://download.electrum.org/3.2.3/) see if the problem still persists... Also, just checking that you don't have Chrome+KeepKey plugin open when trying to use Electrum right? As far as I'm aware, you can't have both open at the same time...

I don't think that would have any effect... the wallet files are stored in "%AppData%/Electrum/wallets" (this is usually C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets on Windows 10), and your user account should have all the necessary permissions for this folder.

But trying on another PC is a good idea.

Not necessarily to buy a PC just to get rid with this problem. This is usually the problem on Windows 10 OS on where even on traditional hardware attachments
do experience problem which is most likely on driver issue. If degrading version didnt work then re-installing a new OS should work.If that windows 10 is clone one then better
buy a licensed one rather than buying a new PC.

I wasn't suggesting to buy a whole new PC. That would be complete overkill to fix what is most likely a trivial driver issue! Roll Eyes I was suggesting that he try connecting the KeepKey to a different computer (as the OP already suggested he was going to try Tongue

I will try on another PC. I am wondering if it has to do with where the wallet files are stored?

Windows 10
Electrum 3.3.4
Updated to latest KeepKey firmware 2 days ago
The cable works fine as the Keepkey will work with the Chrome Keepkey plug in.
So, it seems like an Electrum issue.

I haven't used my KeepKey in a while, so I wasn't aware of this issue.  I just tried mine with the newest version of Electrum, and experienced the same thing.

The dialog box gives instructions to remove the device from the device list in Windows, and then reattach it to reinstall the drivers.  I tried and it's still doing the same thing.  I have not had a chance to install an older version of Electrum on a windows 10 machine to see if the new version is the issue.  I might have a chance later this weekend if no body beats me to it.
