hello

my antminer s11 fan was noisy so i took a new fan
the socket plug was not fitting so i changed it with the old plug but cutting the wires and attached them ( Secured) , then after i turned my miner on there was no indicator light at all and the new fan spinnned for a while ( like 2 minute or so to see if something is up ) and stopped other fan was still spinning , then i changed the fan to the old noisy one , this time the fan starts spinning (both of them).i checked all plugs and all connections.
no light on control board or hashboard, only few blinks on fault red light on the first time and after that no light at all. so i searched on google and came up with this on antminer website:
i have one more s11 but the control board of that one is diffrent, the faulty one has same control board as s9i ( which i have also) all is same but one cable ( in s9 there is one cable from psu to control baord , in s11 there is 2,one small and one big )

17.

Issue: PSU can’t work but fan is running. All the indicators are off.

Reason: The control board cannot get power as the power circuit in IO board is damaged.

Solution: Switch the BB Board and IO Board with good miner to troubleshoot the defective parts.

on this page :>>>>Possible-problems-and-solutions

so if it is so if i get a new fan and new control board ,will it work
or is it possible that i may damaged the hash board when i turned it on first time and waited few minutes, but hashboard was cold and no visual sign ,( in this case im screwed because i dont have that much money right now and i dont want to cash out btc to get new miner, just reached my short term goal amount and mentally i just cant sell)

sorry for bad english
and im figuring out how to post a pic as im new here

thanks

Have you solved the issue?

It seems that you replace a fan which is not compatible you need to disable the "fan check" to run the miner with other fans. If the miner fails to check the fan the miner will restart or will turn to idle mode. That is why not showing any light indicator from the miner.

Can you copy your kernel logs from WebGUI and paste it here so that we can analyze the issue.

hi
thanks for the fast replay
no i couldn't solve
i cant access the UI i mean it dosent show up on modem router ,
even when i replaced the original fan it is same, no indicator lights on , nowhere, only the fan are spinning
before i changed the fan all was good only the fan was noisy, is it possible that the fan connection plug was not right and which part will get the damage.
it never came up and after the first try which it was on and i was checking ip to access the UI from my pc, it was few minutes but when it was ok, after turning on the fan speed changed , it was spinning like idle low rpm and i couldnt access the UI via my pc , ethernet was not working, so i turned it off and it was very very cold, the hash board aswell, i followed the antminer website troubleshoot and unpluged hash boards , still the same, no lights but fan spinning idle mode.

It seems the fan port is damaged.

Can you try to hard reset it first and maybe this is just a program issue.

you can follow the guide from here "How to reset miner to factory settings".

Do the first and 3rd procedure and ignore the 2nd method. If it doesn't work the control board might be damaged. If you have extra s11 you can try to replace it for testing to find if it's just a fan issue or the control board.

It seems the fan port is damaged...

He clearly states  that he can't access the miner's UI , this does not have anything to do with the fan, the fan's port could have been damaged but that is the least of his problems now.

OP , you must know that even if you were to plug in the control board with no fans and no hash boards, you should be able to see the the miner's UI and kernel log, first priority would be to fix the networking issue you got.

this is how you caused the problem

... so i changed it with the old plug but cutting the wires and attached them ( Secured)...

I don't quite understand what do you mean by changing the old plug, do you mean the male (RJ45) or the Female (socket) , I am guessing you have changed the RJ45 image below

and then simply did not secure the wires well enough / messed the colors order so now your network cable is useless,  the first thing you need to do now is change another Ethernet cable in order to be able to log-in to your miner.

forget about the fans, they will spin as soon as they get the power , how they spin and why can only be found out from the Kernel Log, change the network cable, don't make your own, use a working cable.

@Mikeywith, you might want to slow down and re-read the post. The OP cut the **fan** plug because the new did not match the old.

I am with BitMaxz on this one, the new incorrectly wired fan is causing/caused the issue as even if there's no network connectivity the miner will go through it's checks.

@Mikeywith, you might want to slow down and re-read the post.

Unlike the majority of members on this forum , I do read every single detail related to the person who is seeking help, I helped a dozen of people here , you telling me this is like implying I simply rush to answer which is never the case.

reading the OP only ( as many people do) is WRONG , there is a newer post in which he states the following.

i cant access the UI i mean it dosent show up on modem router ,
even when i replaced the original fan it is same,

I am not sure if you ever owned a miner, but the control board must get an IP address and show up even without a fan , he must fix this problem first , there is a good chance that there is nothing wrong with the fan, and the only way to know this is to get to see the miner UI.

I am not saying Bitmaxz is wrong and that the fan problem ( if there is any) shouldn't be fixed , but use your common sense, your car won't start and your first priority is to fix the radio, good 'effing luck  Roll Eyes

While we're on the subject of common sense...

To use your own analogy, if I work on my car and change something and now my car won't start common sense say you go back and check what you did. In this person's case they cut the FAN plug, not the patch cable as you incorrectly ASSumed and even went on to say "I don't quite understand what do you mean by changing the old plug, do you mean the male (RJ45) or the Female (socket) ,...." So again slow down.

Oh and BTW if you actually read posts here you'd see plenty from me and know that yes, I do own miners.

I have not incorrectly assumed, i merely guessed what could have been the problem,  a faulty fan / bad fan wiring  do not cause the miner to not show on your router, i thought he might have altered the network cable  ( which is the first reason why a miner wouldn't show up on the network) unless the control board is toasted which again can't happen simply for using a bad fan.

Back to my analogy, if someone says they cut the radio wire and engine won't start, common sense suggests he likely has tempered with another wire as there is no way a radio wire will stop an engine from kicking in.

But you are right actually, i might have gone way too far with my speculation , but that has nothing to do with reading slow or fast. Sorry for being mean tho.

so
im waiting for a new fan and control board to arrive
i did the reset nothing happened
so my guess is with the control board , coz no lndicator and i even checked that i unplugged hashboards and tested again , same result

thanks bro

[...]

hi
ive tried new lan cable. nothing
i guess it is control board and i somehow damaged it , or maybe PSU , but i dont know how i could make psu broken, and as far as there is no light ( because u said if the fan is faulty i can access the UI)
but if the control board is burned well nothing comes up as the software is with the control board.

ive checked antminer website and ive found this as it is exactly my problem

Quote from: Bitmain
17.

Issue: PSU can’t work but fan is running. All the indicators are off.

Reason: The control board cannot get power as the power circuit in IO board is damaged.

Solution: Switch the BB Board and IO Board with good miner to troubleshoot the defective parts.

so i change control board and Fan (coz fan was spiining bad at first ) then i update here

thanks a loooooooooot guys

ps : i have more s11 but im afraid i break them too ( im very bad at electronics ,im a mechanics guy) so i orderes a fan and control board. to check it out

If the network cable is fine and regadless of the status of the fan/fans your miner should show up unless the control board is burned.

The problem is , how did altering the wires of the fan caused the control board to burn?? It doesn't make sense.

Can you post a clear image of the control board?

im not yet able to post pictures im newbie here and have to do more post for that feature
well i dont know maybe the fan was wrong or maybe when ive been struggling to fit the plug in i damaged the control board or maybe somehow something burned idk. and the first time i turned on the red light at the back where u plug the ethernet lan cable flashed briefly (or maybe also other lights came up but i dont remember) and when i switched off after that no light ever came up
do u see any probability that the hashboards are bad? or even without hashboard ,but even without hashboard the control board will light up , i did check with my other s11.

That is so wrong you simply should not have touched the fan without coming here.

You don’t have to cut the wires there are little metal pins that can be released by pushing on pins that are on the side of the connector .

You then slip in the pins on the new fan.

S11 gear t15 gear s15 gear t17 gear s17 gear are more complex.

The controller the psu talk to each other.  And shorting your controller is easy to do using the wrong fan.

At this point you may need

A new Psu
A new fan
A new controller.

Good luck with your repairs.

By the way a substitute fan that looks like the original may not work even if was wired correctly.
As it may not have proper amps.

Barring all this bitmain gear breaks often and you may not have done anything wrong other then trying to correctly fix your fan.

Did you unplug the working s11 and use it’s eth cable on the dead gear?

hi
so yeah i did check with working ethernet cable
thanks for the info man
so i need to test psu aswell if changing control board or fan didnt help
and how possible it is that the hashboards may gone wrong?

i gave it to friend of mine to check it with one of his s11 ,same batch, control board, psu, fan and etc. and he is good in electronics.
it was control board , confirmed, now idk how i damaged it , because he didnt have a clue. prolly the thing philip said that they talk to each others
so as soon as the orders come i change it and i think im good to go.
thanks for the good information guys , i was totally freezed  Cheesy
