HOW  TO  ADD EXTRA PROTECTION TO YOUR PORTFOLIOS

Recently i got attacked, i was attacked on nearly 60% of my exchanges account, worst part of it all was that they had 2FA protection switched on…

I asked myself ;
How then did this happen i asked myself?
is it possible my 2fa app got hacked?
or is it someone hacking me via a virus?

then i realized the nut in the bombshell…
My email has been compromised..Yes!!!
i thought and plundered once more..how could that be…?

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE??

After a little research i, i found out that

Once they manage to hack into your email address
once your device is compromised with trojans
may be you signed in on their device without signing off
and much more numerous ways

Many exchanges Platform support “2fa reset” on an account so far as you have some vital info about the account, such as:
e-mail address and password
kyc information
last deposit (and/or date/amount )
last withdrawal (and/or date/amount )
etc

Once a hacker has as much info as needed, you are a Victim..as sad as that may be!

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

In this section, i will be showing you how to protect yourself from such vulnerability (though not intended to be so)..

what will be needed:
your understanding
Authy authenticator (not google 2fa!)
(WHATEVER 2FA APP SUITS YOU BETTER..USE IT!)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.authy.authy
email account needed to protect

First things First...i  need you to understand that anything that has to do with 2fa should be treated with utmost carefulness..because once a 2fa code is gone..chances are you are totally locked out of that account (especially for some cases where there is no retrieval (CONS of this )
So that is why i advise using Authy (instead of Google 2fa) as they support retrieval of codes in cases of missing device, change of device etc, your 2fa codes will be restored..

Download and install the 2fa app and sign up with your phone

Next is to log in the e-mail (Gmail) you wish to protect
For Android Devices, goto Settings > Google > Google Account

click On The Security Tab ( you may need to swipe left) and then  2-Step Verification

..

From this step, you are taken to a page where you had set your 2-step verification..
There are two basic types of the 2-step verification
BACKUP CODES (1st and mandatory )
Authenticator Method (Our Focus)

1st, you need to set up the BACKUP CODES by clicking Use Another Backup Option > send

A list of codes will appear, now make sure to store these codes somewhere safe, somewhere you can access each time you need to login your email on a new device..

ACTIVATING AUTHY ON THE ACCOUNT
After storing the backup codes, go back to the SECURITY   Tab and scroll down the page and setup an Alternative Second Step verification, then you would see Authenticator app as on option. Set it as you normally activate a 2fa on an account.. and You are done..

MAKE SURE TO ALWAYS STORE YOUR 2FA ACTIVATION CODES SOMEWERE SAFE AND AVOID MISPLACE OF IT..
EVEN IF AUTHY SUPPORTS RETRIEVAL OF SIGNED IN CODES..MAKE SURE TO KEEP A BACKUP OF THE CODES ELSEWHERE ALSO

If you like; download 12 types of 2fa authentication they are the same
And you are only vulnerable when you trespass and lose your 16 alphabet security keys

So smart up and stop marketing a particular type of authentication app

did you even go through the article?

if you did you would have seen this isn't a matter of the app you use..i is about adding 2fa to your email account..whatever 2fa App suits you better..use it!!

Be patient and relax
You edited it few seconds ago to add a disclaimer which is okay

Am just correcting the facts that you need to secure the 16 keys more than you secure the 2fa app or email

You get it ??

I use Google 2fa first. But I hate the fact that it can't backup my 2fa codes. I lost some bitcoin in my blockchain wallet because of this. Then I started using Authy because its saves 2fa codes and can be recovered but it's always best to store your 2fa codes separately without the app

i understand you..but you are missing the whole point...my aim is to bring to your notice that if your email is protected..all other accounts will be as well....

but thank you for the other correction though

i'm sorry but it is not a "portfolio" when you bag hold a bunch of altcoins. a real portfolio is when you diversify your investment so that you reduce the risks of losing money when the market goes down unexpectedly. that requires investing in assets that are not linked together (follow one asset) and in case of altcoins we all know that when bitcoin drops 1% they drop 10% so you are not "protecting" your money which is the important part...

I know that some people will be wondering why you are sharing this kind of information here that everybody should know,  but you would be shocked that a lot of people don't know this,  and this is why we always see users wallet being hacked everyday and coin stolen, if they knew this then they will have more confidence in their account because the only way hackers could penetrate is via the exchange central wallet itself and not individuals wallet.

Your target should be your email account, set up 2FA for your gmail or any mail service you using and you will be safe ,if hackers get access to your mail then all the websites you using with that mail is within the hackers reach
