when you look at altcoins with a limited sight it obviously leads to limited and false conclusions like what OP has made here. the problem with altcoins is that they are always losing value over the long run so whenever you check them out over the years you can see that they have lost a lot of their total value despite enormous gains in the short term because of their short lasting pumps.
another mistake that usually newcomers make is that they look at USD value of altcoins which fools them into believing that their altcoin has gained value while it was actually losing a lot but the USD value doesn't show it thanks to bitcoin price rise which is the only thing they are being traded against.
