Bitcoin museum for a large metropolitan city—what should it include?

Hey everyone:

I have a lot of time on my hands here, and I’ve been tossing this idea around in my head for a while—maybe some of you have already discussed this before. I want to build a Bitcoin museum, complete with a timeline showing the evolution of money, gold, and bitcoin. I’ve considered a single museum, set somewhere like DC, LA, SF, or even NYC (I know, right), several copycat museums, or a traveling museum.

I just want to know if anyone has any input on such a thing—
What should it include?
Should it avoid being too technical?
What points in history should be emphasized?
Any moments that come to mind?

If this has been discussed somewhere before, would love it if someone could point me to it. I think my goal is to assemble first the amazing journey of the whole project, and then once we’ve gotten it all figured out and agree what should be shown, maybe tossing out a kickstarter to finance the assembly of it. Certainly I’m not talking about it having it’s own building just yet, but we can dream.

That's a kickass idea bud! How much do you even have to set-up your own museum lol Anyway, below are a few things I think your museum should include

1) Satoshi's whitepaper in a big frame.
2) Hash of the first transaction.
3) Satoshi's valuable posts from the forum.
4) Kilara and couple of other physical bitcoins.
5) The very first bitcoin miner set-up.
6) Paper wallets followed by the old pen-drive based hardware wallets.

...and last but not the least, a selfie of theymos with Roger Ver

Maybe you can consider including some interesting stories involving Bitcoin.

Up to you how you will set up it e.g via frame, dioramas, editorial like image, etc.

As I see most bitcoin enthusiasts are guys who love tech stuff. To look it more realistically I think tourists will ignore bitcoin museum and see other stuffs and this museum won't be profitable (After all you need some money to keep it, nothing to talk about profit).
In overall I like idea of bitcoin museum but let's give it different style - what about virtual museum? Since bitcoin is cryptocurrency, used online, make museum that will be online. Will be amazing and you'll have some visitors too.

That looks like a pretty difficult task, as it is not easy to relate Bitcoin to "tangible" things mostly shown in museums. But it may work. Good luck

Take advantage from the fact that you'll have more space dedicated to Bitcoin than most people - most see explanations and infographics on small screens, with luck on a big TV. I would propose a big screen covering one whole wall, where you could show difficult-to-grasp ideas in animations, like the way mining and the blockchain work, and even things like an 51% attack (where one chain replaces another). You could even include a kind of blockchain game, to show the general principles of Proof of Work. That could be realized as a card game which you could sell at the museum.

And yes, a big (and expanding) timeline, photos of the first Pizza bought with Bitcoin, Casascius Coins, photos of a mining farm in China, etc.

You can also add the Original copy of the Genesis block newspaper. But I'm not sure where to get it because this has become of the most sought after Bitcoin collections. It might cost thousands of dollars for a start.

Probably up-to-date charts and data about hash rate, difficulty, mempool, last mined blocks, last transactions and so on would be interesting to see.
The scrolling data of the newly added transactions into the mempool some block explorers show could give an idea of the magnitude and speed of all what happens around Bitcoin.

This could impress the many visitors that don't see all this data on the daily basis.

The evolution of Bitcoin mining could make a nice section. From early 2010 PCs over specialized GPU mining rigs to the very first ASICs. Add a FPGA setup and ASICMiner USB sticks to break things up a bit.

Maybe a timeline including relevant milestones for a short intro on the history of money. From early barter to grain as money in early Mesopotamia (including the first ledgers [1]) to coinage to medieval banking [2] to fiat money to cryptocurrencies.

What about making the museum a journey/route which visitors shall follow and each piece teaches them something new.

For example, the visitor enters the room 1 and discover the history of money,
in the second room, he discovers how the banking system is,
the third he discovers the limits,
the 4th he discovers alternatives,
5th Bitcoin and its ideology, 6th etc...

I would write the most important events on Bitcoin and use it as the base to build the journey. I took rooms as an example but it could be wall 1,2,3,4, or a big roadmap/timeline (why not make an interactive one)

I would keep it simple for the mass and avoid anything too technical to target more people. Which support and format are you going to use?.

Ahh the most expensive thing to be done 

Going back on topic, i would suggest on putting up highlights not directly on technical ones but on the most basic principle why Crypto is being created and for what sole purpose.Therefore,i agree with having that Satoshis WP on a frame which this is on where people do able to see Bitcoin as a whole.
Next is to show the numbers like Hashes, Entire supply and other related terms.
