How much does an exchange( for eg) coinbase, which is no where near the biggest.
BitcoinUSD runs about 20000 traded per day
each traded of the 20000 at top rate sees the coinbase get around 45usd
I don't understand how they can charge so much.

And then they have numerous other pairs traded.

To start with, Coinbase is actually the leading and the biggest exchange out there when it comes to buying and selling bitcoin using fiat.

Secondly, this trading volume might be bigger than 20000 BTC actually but for the fees, coinbase has percentage-based fees where it depends on your location and the payment method you're using (some are flat, but nowhere near the amount you mentioned) which looks very fair to me compared to other exchanges.

Coinbase generally have to apy fees to move your moeny into their main address from your deposit address and then (sometimes) [ay your withdrawal fees too.

If you use pro for example, volume with EURO is ~30 million a day, I'd imaging they can make 3 BTC a day from that alone (as it seems quite expensive to keep those servers continually running since they do a better job keeping their servers online than a couple of other exchanges do)...
