Hey,

I'm curious which wallet you use and why. Are there any special features you like or are you just deciding on the UI? The selection seems huge and the features are more or less the same. I'm looking for a mobile wallet.

More or less for daily use. Features like batched transactions would be nice to have.

Best regards!

For mobile wallet what is your primary goal, most will recommend you Electrum which is very simple and easy to configure and to use. Personally, I use this wallet on my smartphone (Android), and for everyday use, it completely meets my needs.

Another option, in my opinion, would be BlueWallet, which could be described as a slightly more advanced version of the mobile wallet, with some extra options (lightning network support).

There is also an option to combine hardware wallets with smartphones (Ledger Nano S via OTG cable/Nano X via Bluetooth), which is another higher level of security, with the addition that we then have a multicurrency wallet.

The background is, my mum wants to go south africa to clean turtles. Maybe that's too much but I thought it could be useful for her to have some bitcoin with me.
Electrum does not look very friendly for non-technicians. Things like fee estimation and stuff are quite good but probably too much for my mum.

Do you think that this hardwarewallet support is necessary in the future?

And how would a feature look like that will make you change the wallet app?

Which features do you miss?

Does she have an Android or iOS phone? Samourai Wallet should be fairly easy to use if you set it up for her. It supports RBF which could come in handy in case she sent a transaction with a low fee (although it shouldn't happen). Blockstream Green Wallet should be even easier to use. It even supports hardware wallets but I don't think it's necessary in this case. Both wallets are available only on Android.

I would not recommend the mobile version of Electrum. I had a few problems with it, mostly crashes while trying to bump a transaction fee.

I may be wrong, but I doubt you'll find a simpler solution for crypto mobile wallet than Electrum. Even if it's for your mom, you can explain to her in a very simple way how to use it. There is no need to adjust fees (it is only option for more experienced users), so all she needs to learn is to scan QR code for sending BTC in a transaction, or to show someone QR code of receiving address. I've simplified things here to the level of a QR code that does things automatically, but there is also an option to copy/paste coin address.

Hardware wallet/s is only for extra security, but for small amounts of coins ($50 or $100) mobile wallets like Electrum or BlueWallet should be just fine, assuming that your mobile device is not infected with malware or that it does not have some exploit that could lead to hacking.

I personally miss nothing right now, I have a hardware wallet for safe storage, and a mobile wallet when I need it. Of course, this does not mean that there is no room for progress, as solutions for the masses need to be further simplified.

My mum uses Android. I have already used the electrum wallet myself and actually found it quite good. Updating the latest Blocks take some time if you not use it daily but that should be totally okay. Also I don't find that UI from electrum very nice.

A feature that I miss is that if my mum does a transaction that is over a certain amount, it would be a very cool if I could "co-sign" it.

So if it was your mum you would recommend electrum?

greetings!

It's not possible unfortunately. You would have to co-sign every transaction and you would be limited to a small amount of wallets which support multisig.

So if it was your mum you would recommend electrum?

I would go for the Green Wallet since I didn't experience any problems while using it, but it might be easier for you to explain her how to use the wallet over the phone if you choose Electrum since you have used it. Green Wallet's UI is much more appealing in my opinion.

Is it possible that the wallet software decides whether multisig is used or not?

No, I have never seen such a wallet. If the wallet software supports multisig then user chooses whether or not they want to create a multisig wallet which always needs a selected amount of keys to spend the coins, regardless of the value of the transaction.

The mobile wallet i am using is mycelium.
For me, it has all of the necessary features and a nice UI.

The only downside is that their server are under heavy load from time to time.
This results in a very long wait time when resyncing your wallet and eventually failing transactions.

But this happened only 2 times in the last 3 years. So that's acceptable IMO.

If you own a hardware wallet, your able to connect it to mycelium (at least ledgers and trezors wallets).

What exactly do you miss about a particular wallet? That service still exists, the only thing that has changed is the domain name, before .info, now .com. Some things have probably changed for the better, and it's still a very popular online wallet, especially for beginners.

I think the way you could get around this (if you were using electrum or another wallet happy with multisig) is by making two accounts.

Say you have 0.1BTC and you only want her to spend 0.01BTC for daily use (without additional security) then you could make a secondary wallet with that amount and make a primary wallet with the greater amount in it. If you're worried about her getting scemmed then it might be better to do it that way as a scammer could just send a load of other addresses to her.

A lot of the time with electrum, she can sign the multisig transaction and then send a message with the sighnature (as it's automatically copied to the clipboard) and then you can sign it wherever you are as long as you have your phone and it's online.

Personally I don't like the new ui of the block explorer, it's not as light to load as it used to be and the top banner isn't as nice. Haven't used the wallet in a long time (and barely ever used it before) but I imagine it's plastered with ads and ref links now...

I use Atomic Wallet. I like everything about Atomic Wallet. It has a fast and smooth user interface. It supports more than 300 cryptocurrencies. And main thing is that it is decentralized. It allows user full control of keys. You can also buy crypto within the wallet using your bank card, exchange to other cryptocurrencies via atomic swap and stake.
Atomic wallet is not easy to use and I think he is looking for easy to use wallet for his mom and Atomic wallet is not one of them and actually it's not listed on bitcoin.org as android wallet and also it has bad issues before.

@ijke
I recommend you to check the list of Android wallet from here https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5&platform=android
You can use the tool under "features" if what exactly features do you want for Android wallet all listed there are safe just don't choose Mycelium for now because they are still have syncing issue.

the good thing about Electrum that makes it user friendly, despite what you said here, is that the user interface is as simple as possible while you can enable advanced options. for if you find any feature too complicated (like coin control for instance) then you just don't enable it. as for fees, moving a simple slider back and forth is as easy as it gets, it can't be any more simplified than that. even if you find it complicated again you can not enable it and let the wallet decide automatically and it does a decent job at that.
