When did you first get connected and surf the internet?

My 1ST foray into the internet was 1995 shortly after windows 95 was released.
My first Win95 pc had  a  2GB hard drive, 200mmx  something or other processor and a whopping 15 inch crt monitor, and a 28.8 k modem.
My ISP was Prodigy,  because AOL wasn't cool man, lol.
I was a star member of the Prodigy Night Chat Room as I worked night shift.
Got home at 2:30 am and logged in everynite . Me and my fellow clown chatters had a blast trolling all the Prodigy chat rooms.
I even got temp banned for being naughty in the "polite chatroom"... lol.
(My buddy dared me to go into the  "polite chatroom"  and post "HEY IS THIS WHERE YOU POLITE MOTHERF***ERS SHOOT THE SHIT? " in all caps and
because I'd been drinking all night, of course I did. The first reply was brilliant...No, it's where we shoot assholes like you!...  )
Anyway...
my nn was exjaysbac if anyone out there recognizes that would love to hear from you.
Or any ancient aol, netscape ,prodigy, internet surfing story.......OK BOOMER!!!

I don't remember exactly since when I started using internet but I have facebook account since 2010 so yeah its been a decade for sure now I am using internet.But internet is not available this much compared to early days and cost of data also pretty high even before 3 years.

Oh wait, we're from the same era

Well, mine was during the early 2000's. Just like our time, those godawful modem beeps and the intermittent disconnection whenever a call comes in. And damn, every page loading felt like an eternity! I can't imagine surfing at those speeds in this current era.

Downloading songs from Limewire were heaven, and sometimes I stumbled across some "fake" ones. Good times!

Wow! You have been an early adopter. I accessed internet around in 2007 for first time in my dad's Nokia phone with 2g. That time even Google searching was so fascinating and I used to download images of normal stuffs and it felt out of the world. That experience I don't get witn my 4g network on my smartphone and computer.

Before Prodigy, or maybe concurrently, I remember interacting with people on Bulletin Board Services (BBS). I can't remember the name of the one I frequented, but it was a highly localized phenomenon, in that each city or town had its own BBS where you interacted with members of your own community.

Other than using it for socializing, it was pretty pointless. A few lame games, places to download images (TIFF files actually predated GIF and JPEG -- saw my first porn that way), and that was about it.

My family was always a bit behind on modem speeds, so as a prank, people would blast me with huge text files that took a minute or so to download and display on screen as compared to the couple of seconds it would take most others.

I also remember that when someone at your home would pick up the phone when the modem was going, it was quite a bitch, and frequently disrupted the connection enough to make you go offline.

We also had Prodigy and then AOL... All of it was quite lame really compared to the things you can do with modern day internet.
