Hi everyone,

Back in 2014, I bough some BTC, and stored it in a Bitcoin Core wallet. When looking at my email history, I found a Blockchain.info email with my wallet backup.
In this email, I have the following file: wallet.aes.json and my wallet ID.

The issue is that I don't remember my password, and my private key.

Also, the computer on which I had the wallet has been reset, but I managed to access to a previous version thanks to Time Machine. However, when I open Bitcoin Core (already installed), it's not the same BTC address, and there's no fund on it.

Is it possible to recover my wallet with the following?
- Wallet.aes.json file
- Wallet ID
- Bitcoin Address
- The computer on which I had the Bitcoin Core wallet

I did some research and the password seem to be required to decrypt the wallet.aes.json file. But maybe it can be worth paying a hacker for that? I would like to know if it's at least possible to recover the funds one way or another.

Thanks!

The core wallet has nothing to do with the blockchain.info wallet.
2 separate wallets with 0 interaction between the 2.

With that being said if you have the wallet.aes.json and the password:
https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/import-wallet

For the desktop core wallet, you need to find where the wallet.dat file was stored and see if that was backed up.

Is it possible to recover my wallet with the following?
- Wallet.aes.json file
- Wallet ID
- Bitcoin Address
- The computer on which I had the Bitcoin Core wallet

Bitcoin core backup file is wallet.dat, while blockchain.info wallet uses wallet.aes.json. If you truly used Bitcoin Core for the Bitcoin, that mean you do not have the right backup file yet. You need to look for wallet.dat. Or, have you forgotten the wallet you used, maybe it is blockchain.info wallet?

Blockchain wallet is the one making use of wallet ID, you can not use it to recover it back, neither can you use Bitcoin address. If the computer still have the wallet.dat, you can possibly recover it back. But I am thinking you use blockchain wallet instead of Bitcoin core. Which wallet, did you actually use? Bitcoin Core does not have anything like wallet ID, it is a privacy wallet, unlike Blockchain wallet.

If you forgot the password in your wallet.aes.json file there is a tool called BTCrecover that you can use to brute-force the wallet.

Read the instruction from this link below.

About your Bitcoin core, you can back up the wallet file as other said above but if you can open the Bitcoin core wallet you can go to console and send this command below

If encrypted use this command first.
Code:
walletpassphrase your-wallet-passphrase 300

Then use this command:
Code:
dumpprivkey <your bitcoin address>

After that, you will get all of your private keys now install Electrum and import them all let's see if you can find your Bitcoins.
Take note if you don't know the bitcoin core wallet password you can also use the BTCrecover tool.

And I would like to suggest check the %Appdata%\bitcoin and maybe it generates two different wallet.dat file includes your old wallet.

Theoretically, yes... it can be brute-forced... but that comes with some big caveats...

- You need a good idea of the password length
- You need a good idea of the "structure" of the password (ie. word+word+2digits, or 6 characters+4 digits etc)
- You need to know what characters were used in the password (ie. lowercase, UPPERCASE, numb3r5, Speci@! Symbols etc)

If you know these things... and the password isn't too long (like < 12 chars)... then there is a very good chance it could be bruteforced. There are all manner of scripts available to achieve this... or you could try: https://www.walletrecoveryservices.com/

They have a good reputation and have helped a number of users over the years recovery their wallet passwords etc.

Just a note.
Do not send your files to anyone reaching you in private messages.
Never share your seeds, passwords and wallet.dat files with untrustworthy users. Most likely you will get scammed.
Post your questions here, there are many people who can help you.

Thanks!

there are several versions of blockchain.com v1 wallets from 2014 and not all of them will work with btcrecover or hashcat ( there are at least 3 different known encryptions with 1 and 10 iterations)

even with the correct password you wont be able to unlock the wallet unless you have custom made tools
