Since bitcoin has now reached an all-time high as we speak, there are also groups of people victimizing people and asking for ransom or money in form of BTC or crypto payment, knowledge is very important, and securing your data is one of our priority that you should always keep in mind since we are dealing with this kind of people who have advance knowledge and can attack us in lots of angles in the web.

How important is security?

People are getting relax once their pc is set up, they browse lots of sites downloading movies, files on the web without knowing they also downloaded a threat, yes we have antivirus but sometimes it doesn’t detect this kind of malware or ransomware, you should not only rely on antivirus but you should be aware where you access or download something, I have encountered before a file or folder have been stolen in the computer and it’s been locked, with a note file message that if you don’t pay in this bitcoin address, they are going to leak the files, which is very important to the person, he ended paying, a certain amount, but paying doesn’t mean 100% they are going to give the file back.
Are you aware of doppelpaymer ransomware group? This is a group of people who is being reported that harassing the people who got infected with ransomware even going to the extreme where they tried to call and threaten to leak the files or important data according to the FBI.

Here is the link to the said modus and attack: https://www.zdnet.com/article/fbi-says-doppelpaymer-ransomware-gang-is-harassing-victims-who-refuse-to-pay/

There are lots of warning being given regarding this kind of this attacks, so securing your computer even network is necessary, avoid downloading from unknown sites, free software to do like scanning your computer for free, I'm not saying that it's not okay to browse but take an extra careful when doing so if you think that site is suspicious get out of the site immediately and always do a backup so that if something happens, you can restore what is lost, but of course, prevention is better less hassle, and also save you money.

You are right, windows OS components can be easily compromised when downloading stuffs online but I find avast to be effective in this area, the software has real site security, when browsing through the web this software gives you the green light to only safe links and websites, even google ads are banned, very cool antivirus IMO

Why do I feel that the purpose of this topic is to click on the link? The first rule is to not randomly click on the links, otherwise, the likelihood of you being hacked will be higher.

Securing a computer is by learning more, not trusting anyone (except this reply Tongue Tongue) placing important files on an air-gapped pc, considering any sites are a scam except your trust list, thus avoiding visiting unknown sites.

security of user PC's or mobile's is depend on how user using it for online browsing. of course we are have antivirus in the market we can buy it and install it, but if user not careful with any kind of cybercrime, they will be easy to get victim. Mostly malicious program coming from illegal download, illegal streaming, fake airdrop and any fake sites service. Few days ago, my friends got hacqked because of illegal streaming, he have antivirus, but the sites not blacklisted yet, that's why even user have antivirus. the real antivirus for your PC's and Moblie is "your online habbit"

Perhaps I will seem boring, but I will repeat over and over again that using Windows systems will always be a tidbit for scammers.
Yesterday there was news of a Microsoft hack, I don't know how plausible it is, but the fact that these systems are full of holes has been proven many times.
https://www.reuters.com/article/global-cyber-microsoft-int-idUSKBN28R3BW

If you still trust Windows, then don't combine your finances with entertainment. Even if someone inexperienced can click on a phishing link, if nothing interesting is saved in the system in which you are looking for entertainment, hackers will be left without profit.
A work computer should not be used for watching movies, playing games, and anything else. If you work carefully, then you will not have to regret the loss.
And yes, having a super modern antivirus is not a panacea. Take a look at the hacking statistics again, haven't you heard that antiviruses are not scary for experienced hackers?

I've given up trying to convince people that using globalist services makes you vulnerable. It isn't just Microsoft software, and the vulnerabilities are well documented, but the escalation of the minor Covid virus, the consequences for the UK of the clean Brexit that we voted for, the use of many pharmaceuticals to suppress the symptoms of disease, the security of fiat currencies, and many other features of the modern world.

Just don't click any suspicious links, don't click if you think that it is an obvious spam or scam. World Wide Web is really a huge platform where scammers and viruses can be located so it is better to be safe than never. You can also use incognito if you want, and just be mindful about how those viruses and scammers move in many platforms. Your computer should be yours only and don't let other people use your device because if they are not knowledgeable how to use PC safely, then it is your own sufferings when they clicked a virus or a scam.

I would not agree that the OP posted a link because it has anything to do with that site or wants to promote it, after all it is a fairly well known site for this type of news. Furthermore, although just clicking on random links is not smart, anyone with good AV and anti-malware will not just get infected if they visit a malicious site - in most cases it is necessary to download a file to infect the computer.

A work computer should not be used for watching movies, playing games, and anything else.

This is a very desirable practice, but how many people can afford to have two computers (at home) on which to completely separate work from entertainment? In fact, one computer is enough, you just need to adequately protect it and be aware that the Internet is a very dangerous place.

I've given up trying to convince people that using globalist services makes you vulnerable. It isn't just Microsoft software, and the vulnerabilities are well documented, but the escalation of the minor Covid virus...

Except we all disappear from the net like Satoshi, how do you even imagine protecting ourselves from being spied on? Of course there are ways to be anonymous to some extent, but I believe that 9 out of 10 internet users don't want to go in that direction at all - either it's too complicated or they just don't care.

What to say about your constant downplaying of the problem created by the virus, you might believe how dangerous it can be only if you become infected. So far, at least 1,670,000 people have died from the effects of the virus - though to some it doesn't seem like a big number. Sweden recently announced that November 2020 is the month with the most deaths in the last 100 years, but it is certainly a lie for anyone who thinks like you.
