I have for auction, an interesting piece of history, especially for owners with a copy of the 1988 Economist issue.

A Universal Money by Walter Bagehot - "Ultimately the world will see one Code de Commerce, and one money as the symbol of it."








For those of you who are unfamiliar with Walter Bagehot, here are some fun facts:

 - His nickname was "The Spare Chancellor" (better than being a chancellor on the brink  )
 - He was the editor of The Economist for 17 years
 - Married Eliza Wilson, whose father, James Wilson, was the founder and owner of The Economist.
 - The Economist still has a weekly column named after him, Bagehot's Notebook. https://www.economist.com/bagehots-notebook/
 - Coined the term "Lender of Last Resort"

This is a 2nd edition book published in 1889. I believe the 1st editions were a series of articles (opposed to a traditional 1st edition book) issued in The Economist in 1869, but I have been unable to verify this.

I must say it's really hard to find info about the book or the book, taking me a bit to find it, i just discovered he has a bunch more of books but this particular one is hard to find, not on wikipedia as far as i seen.
