Hello everyone,

Recently I tried to join in a signature campaign, but not noticed that they already closed for new participants. So now, I need to wait 24 hours to delete my post.

The idea, in deleting a new post automatically after reaching a 24-hour barrier, if the user clicked  "delete".  Also, make it possible to cancel auto-deleting.

I don't see a problem in making a post even though it didn't make sense at the time, just edit the post and leave it blank or post just "delete" and come back to delete it after 24 hours.

What you suggest may make sense because that way the post would be automatically deleted after 24 hours, but that's the idea for a new forum. Until then, we will still have to take care of such posts and come back after 24 hours to delete them - and if we forget, maybe someone will report them and they will be deleted by the moderator.

Seems like (at this stage) an unfavorable exchange of allocated development resources for improved efficacy of a feature that will be seldom used by the fraction of forum users that will be aware of it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With some more use cases, there may be an argument for this. Your situation, though, is probably not a common one.

Maybe theymos could do that but the trouble with automating it is that people could also automate the deleting and reposting process which could be taken advantage of so maybe it's better to just manually do it. You can always report the post to mods if you wish to have it deleted. Just state so in the report and a mod will likely remove it, but it's not really a big deal really.

In this case, though, they save one action which does not cause any post delays (replies and PMs, not deletions) wherein the automation would just as easily delete and reply on 24-hour intervals, or simply use alternate accounts to bump their threads for whatever reason.

I don't think the refutation is explicitly that of an anti-exploitation avenue.

The easiest option for you is to come back after 24 hours and delete your post rather than adding this function to the forum as SMF does not have this feature by default. Wink

If you request many automatic systems for the forum, it will just increase the load. As others said, there is an easy way to solve it, that isn't many serious issues. There are more serious issues waiting for implementation.

By the way, you may use the "report to moderator" button to delete your own post. Write an appropriate reason in the comments section. I have an experience of that and post was deleted by moderators. I can't recall which campaign,  but I wasn't really made on a closed campaign thread.

Thing that you suggested is called first world problems Cheesy. Is it so difficult to return after 24 hours and delete your post that you need an automated tool for it? Even if you will forget and won't delete it, nothing fundamentally wrong won't happen.
I'm not against new features added to Bitcointalk, but this one probably would have minimal use and too much effort for theymos to make it.

Maybe it is some kind of OC disorder of some people that they feel uneasy that they have a useless application since there are no available spots. Nevertheless his problem has been given a solution by hilarious which is requesting the mods to delete their own post by using the report to moderator function which I think is better compared to auto-deleting where you still need to wait for 24 hours before something happens.
