Permanently barring him does seem a bit harsh. They could have given a temporary ban instead.

Mark Zuch got away with "murder" at Harvard.
He launched Facebook after hacking into the schools computers, so he would have free hosting.

And I thought Mark Zuch was squeaky clean!
