Hello there. As you may know, alt season is about to take place. Usually, as seen by past trends, there is a major correction in the price of bitcoin when the alts explode. When that correction happens, do the prices of the alts also fall before shooting up?

Trends are usually changing like that we're having this time. Sometimes it doesn't follow with the history that we've seen before but if it does, you can take a guess and decision that it is finally happening. But IMHO, we're still seeing bitcoin isn't taking a break so if the pattern that we usually see from the past for when altcoin season comes, then don't think that it's not yet in here.

Personally, I'd recommend taking a look for yourself, specifically looking at altcoins which are of interest to you. Since, not every altcoin will behave the same, and Bitcoin doesn't always influence every single altcoin. There's a number of factors which contribute to the market of each Altcoin. So, to prevent misinformation, and biased being injected into answers, take a look at how the market reacted after each time Bitcoin went up.

We as humans love to identify patterns, even when there aren't any. Remember, that correlation doesn't always equal causation. Personally, I don't really believe in a Altcoin season, that happens once Bitcoin shoots up, the only conceivable way this would be true is because of increased exposure to cryptocurrencies. although I'm not sure that would significantly impact Altcoins enough on its own.

It can only be seen on alt/usd pairs. And that only happened because bitcoin's price increased a lot in the past few weeks. If you compare it to alt/btc pairs, their price is very low compared to its previous months.
What I can call an alt season is alt/btc pairs shooting up. The ultimate goal in trading alts is to accumulate and increase bitcoin portfolio. But I guess this depends on what you've used on buying that alt, if you use stablecoins like usdt then your profit should be usdt too. Same with btc, if you buy an alt worth 0.05btc, it should return greater amount of bitcoin not the equivalent fiat value when you bought it.

You are right. Altcoins are increasing so much in USDT pairs as bitcoin increases in USDT that lifts the price of altcoins in USDT when their price in BTC are almost unchanged.

Fortunately, altcoin season will come and when it comes, altcoins will rise in two pairs. In that season, altcoin performance will bigger than bitcoin. Bitcoin increases in USDT but altcoins increase in 2 pairs. Double increases and bigger profits. It is a period of the market that I will hold my altcoins very tight. I don't shake my hands and take profit with my altcoins if I don't have x2 profit.

It sure has happened in the past, and I really wouldn't be surprised if it was the same this bull market, but don't forget: "Past performance is not indicative of future results".

Especially if everyone's expecting the same exact trend to take place, there would possibly be a decent chance that it wouldn't end up going how people expected. I doubt it's going to be like in the past.

It used to be that alts where pretty much exclusively traded against bitcoin.

So if the price of bitcoin went up alts went up with it. And alts could go up against bitcoin at the same time so it was a volatilty built on top of volatility.

Now alts need to have a little bit more merit.

I am hoping for an alt season. Don't get me wrong Bitcoin is my number 1, but I have nothing against a future of many coins for many different uses and users. I believe that crypto will cause a lot of different economic networks to co-exist in the future.

Syscoin has the best of Bitcoin and Ethereum in one place, it's merge mined with Bitcoin so it is plugged into Bitcoin's ecosystem and takes full advantage of it's POW while rewarding Bitcoin miners with Syscoin

If the trend says BTC is about to go up, traders will move out of altcoins.
If the trend says BTC is "exhausted" and will take a little break [sideways], traders will move to altcoins since it usually follows after BTC.

It is not always the case but that's the usual behavior that I can see since BTC went past $20K.

From the way I see it, alt season is divided into two, there are the altcoins that have their seasons at the same time when Bitcoin is having its season, these are the altcoins which have correlation with Bitcoin, and they are closely following the movements that Bitcoin is making and when there is uptrend they go with it, these are mostly the top coins like ETH and Litecoin. Then there are the ones that don’t correlate, these ones lose value because people leave them to buy Bitcoin and top altcoins when there is uptrend, so their seasons come differently.

We really don't know when the alt season has started yet or not. Ethereum though, the prime mover in Altcoin are close to being reaching it's precious highs. But if you have to look at the dominance, bitcoin still takes over 70% so again, will there be any alt season when all the money is still on BTC.

And as far as past trends, as bitcoin narratives has shifted, this kind of correlations might not be true at all, just saying. Altcoin investor has mature as well, no longer the irrational buyers that we have witnessed in 2017.

It isn't really a good measure to base upon, but most of the time it does happen. This doesn't guarantee that it always happens though, just that most of what alts seasons in the past have shown significant growth when Bitcoin experiences a bull run, BUT not all at least. DYOR about that, and you should easily identify altcoins that have shown such patterns. Still, I'd advise you to actually not follow those trends and just do your own research. But when your research does show that the market follows such trends, then do as such. Long story short, don't follow whatever trend society dictates, still do your own studies about the market before anything else.

Hello there. As you may know, alt season is about to take place. Usually, as seen by past trends, there is a major correction in the price of bitcoin when the alts explode.

During this cycle, most of the altcoin market has crashed when Bitcoin has crashed, then there some days, some of the altcoins have also crashed when Bitcoin was surging. I believe altcoin season will NOT be as strong as the past trends.

Why? Because institutions make up most of this bull cycle, not the retail plebs which made up most of 2017’s bull cycle. I believe institutions won’t invest in shitcoins.

It sure has happened in the past, and I really wouldn't be surprised if it was the same this bull market, but don't forget: "Past performance is not indicative of future results".

Yes. That supports my post.

“Alt Season” is the part of the overarching cryptocurrency market cycle where many altcoins “moon” (go up quickly in price) against the dollar and Bitcoin at once (for example, late December 2017 – early January 2018).
